Today we’d like to introduce you to Abaiola Nyagba.
Hi Abaiola, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Kash & Ash as a general beauty online shop was launched in 2020 during the pandemic. However, being a first time business owner and a self taught entrepreneur, the road has been quite long but worth it. Towards the end of 2020 we decided to go back to the drawing board and in the later part of 2021, Kash & Ash branded products were born. This has been the best decision so far and most rewarding.
The brand Kash & Ash is a fruity skincare body brand. Termed “fruity skincare” due to our aesthetically pleasing fruit shapes and fruit scents. One of our best selling products which is the “Fruity Moisturizing Hand Crème Set” is inspired from my all-time battle with very dry skin and my experience as a Registered Nurse. As a young girl growing up, my skin has always been dry and it was much later in my adult years I began to pay attention and learn more about moisturizers. Being a nurse, also worsened this problem specifically with my hands. The countless use of hand sanitizers and hand washing just didn’t help my hands to the extent that they would crack or peel. I believe many direct healthcare workers can attest to these issues. One thing almost every nurse I had worked with was sure to have in their scrub pocket or backpack was a hand cream. However, we noticed lots of these hand creams were greasy, sticky, not moisturizing, and they all looked similar. It was during these moments that I began to think of entrepreneurship and I decided to provide a solution for my everyday problem, and that’s how the Kash & Ash Fruity Moisturizing Hand Crèmes were created.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The ride has not been smooth. There’s been a lot of learning and expenses like wise. Nevertheless, it is said that “nothing good comes easy'” and the results have proven this fact.
Entrepreneurship is a life-long learning process and as someone whose experience had only been in healthcare, going into a different niche was challenging. As part of my learning, I’ve had to do lots of research. There’s also the issue of financial investment. I found out many things essential to the success of the business required money. It’s very easy to waste an unnecessary sum of money too because in the beginning you are just trying out different things. Lack of brand awareness has also been one of the struggles. The truth is that as a new online store there’s that skepticism. Most customers are scared to commit to a sale because they have never heard of your brand. However, running adverts, having our products on various platforms, among many other strategies has increased our ROI. We have done more in a short time since we launched our branded products than when we first started in 2020 and we are truly grateful. Even with the obstacles we’ve encountered and conquered, it is clear that our journey has only begun and the future for Kash & Ash is bright.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a premium skincare brand, we provide our customers with pristine body products formulated with ingredients that help moisturize, rejuvenate, enhance skin glow and appearance.
The look and feel of our products is one of fun, excitement, beauty, & nature. Kash & Ash skincare products are realistic or relatable in the sense that when you see or smell our products it reminds you of that favorite fruit or a fruit you just love. Our goal is to do the utmost best and create a wonderful experience for all our customers. I am very proud of what we represent and how far we have come in such a short time.
Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
The beauty industry is ever evolving. The trend now is sustainability, environmentally friendly goods, and consciousness. People want to know what’s in their products and how it impacts our planet. We can expect this trend to continue and actually remain. Something that I see improving on the current trend is the use of technology.
