Community Highlights: Meet Allyson Nickerson of The Calling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allyson Nickerson.

Hi Allyson, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Entrepreneurship is not my first choice in career. Since I was a little girl, my goal was to be a veterinarian. I have my Bachelor’s in Animal Science and have worked in the animal medical field for over 13 years. In 2015, God placed the idea of business on my heart. I reconnected with a high school friend and got the inside scoop of what it’s like to run a business. The same night I announced, “I am an entrepreneur!”, was the same night I found out I was pregnant with my first son. Since then, I married my best friend and ultimate support system, started 2 businesses, and accepted my calling to serving moms. I feel like the more children I have had, the deeper God has pushed me to starting this business! It’s definitely helped to be a driving force to create the lives I want my kids to have.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has been a long road! Starting a business as a mom, then adding two kids to the mix ON TOP of a marriage and managing a household is A LOT mentally, emotionally, and physically! To do lists of your business are always in the back of your mind on top of every duty you have as a wife and a mom. The biggest lessons I have had to learn are:

1. I have to take breaks. Taking care of myself is top tier healing to being sure I can properly be there for my family. Talking a walk, communicating to my husband, or just having some me-times from my kids is important.

2. Be present in the moment. This covers many hats of my life. Whether it’s getting off my phone and spending time with my family or working on my business while the kids are on a play date (what I’m doing now), being present is important.

And lastly, 3. I made a choice. Once I decided that this line of work is my end goal, my desired life, and my purpose here of Earth, ain’t no holding me back!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My life has been full of seasons of people pleasing, overwhelm, and low self esteem. Since becoming a mom, ALL of these issues have been pushed in my face on front street and I have. had to handle them all through therapy, research, and self-realization. My company is called The Calling and I am a Mommy Mindset Coach. I help moms manage daily stress and revive their inner HER to better serve their families. My belief and the belief of my clients is that motherhood is a ministry, not a job. We were placed in the roles to be mothers to these children to mentor them into their purpose.

I understand what moms go through mentally to survive motherhood but now I want to help them thrive mentally and emotionally.

I am also the host of a podcast titled For Moms. It’s all mommy all the time! I give you a dive into my personal diary of mindset shifts in regards to different journeys moms go through. It’s probably where I am the most vulnerable and it’s amazing!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Oh, Chile there are so many! The biggest lesson I have learned in my journey in entrepreneurship and marriage is that I have to communicate. Communicate my goals and dreams, as well as, my pains and turmoil. It’s been huge in helping me live a better life because my husband knows what I need and I have also learned how to communicate with myself better to know when to push harder and take rest. The next biggest thing is that I don’t know everything. I have always been “Mrs. Fix It”, the person you come to with questions and problems; but there is so much in the world of business! You have to ask for help. Sometimes you can figure it out but there’s no shame in asking for help and having the confidence to speak when you need it.
