Community Highlights: Meet Rae’Lynn Kossie of The Rare Kollection

Hi Rae’Lynn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved buying new clothes and shoes. As I got older, I realized that the clothes don’t make your outfit, accessories do. When I would go on Instagram to find new stores to shop at, it seemed like they all sold the same things. I wanted to be the exact opposite, I wanted to sell the “rare” things that are hard to come across yet still affordable. When I worked up enough courage to finally pursue my store, I started comparing what I found online with what my vendors had. I picked the things that I hardly came across and went from there. That’s when the “Rare Kollection” was born.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning my own business has been one of the most challenging things I’ve ever come across. There’s nothing I love more than seeing a happy customer tag me on Instagram or someone that refers my business to their friends. That’s just the thing, there aren’t always happy customers. I have to go out of my way for each and every customer, hoping that they’re all equally satisfied, all while keeping myself happy in the process. I’ve switched my website, vendors, and product base throughout this process and it’s proved to be a true learning curve. Although I wouldn’t change a thing, it’s been far from a smooth road.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Rare Kollection launched in April of 2020. I sell an assortment of items from jewelry to phone cases. What sets my business apart from others is that I offer a one-stop-shop. Brand wise, I’m proud of the fact that I’ve never had an unsatisfied customer. I’m always taking every interaction into consideration to better my service in the long run. My brand is expanding, thanks to the support I’ve received since I launched earlier this year. With that being said, I’ll be expanding my business and clothes for all shapes and sizes will be added soon! I offer local pickup as an alternative to shipping for my Houston customers. I just want to say I’m extremely grateful for all the support I’ve received so far and I can’t wait to see my business prosper even more. Use code “VOYAGE” for 15% off!

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My biggest supporters have been my close family and friends. My mom has been my biggest supporter of them all. When I have to stay up late packaging orders or get up early to go to the post office before they get crowded, she’s always there right along with me. Owning my own business at such a young age has been overwhelming to say the least, but my mom is always there to get me through it. I knew absolutely nothing about starting a business or how to go about it, but my family and friends supported me every step of the way and I couldn’t be more grateful.
