Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany and Kieya Weathers.
Brittany and Kieya, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hi, my name is Brittany Weathers. I am the CEO of Kieya’s Kloset (an online boutique). I started Kieya’s Kloset not only as another source of income, but a great way to spend time with my daughter while making money. We’ve been in business for almost a year now. We went to our first pop-up shop and were too shy to get potential customers attention. Being a new small business there are pros and cons. Some of the cons were learning to deal with customers with attitudes, and relatives wanting discounts. The pros are the return customers, the feeling after getting great reviews, and the overall support from family and friends. I taught my daughter that “not everyone will support you in the beginning”.
We had the opportunity to attend the festivities of SXSW in Austin to promote. While on 6th St. my daughter handed a lady a Kieya’s Kloset flyer. A few seconds later she found it on the ground, so I told her to pick it up, hand it to someone else, and keep it moving. I think that was a big eye-opener for her. So yes, we’ve encountered all of these small business problems, but through it all we’ve learned so much and I’m so grateful.
In the beginning of our business my daughter Kieya was supposed to be the model and face of Kieya’s Kloset, but I found out that she loves being behind the camera. I’m a firm believer that if you want to grow that you have to have a strong team behind you. My daughter is now one of the photographers of our brand that we’re creating. My friend Vizion is now a partner and model for Kieya’s Kloset. Our team is growing, we’re learning from our mistakes, and we’re getting better every step of the way.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles was finding vendors and receiving the wrong packages. Just starting out and getting the attention we needed to sell our items was a struggle in the beginning as well. I would tell any young woman who has a business or who want to start a new business. Be patient with their selves and their business. Make a plan set a goal and go for it. You can do anything you set your mind to.
What should we know about Kieya’s Kloset? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Kieya’s Kloset is an online boutique. We sell a wide variety of women’s shoes and clothes. We don’t follow trends, we set them. We’re a team who loves to express ourselves through fashion. We love giving back, and networking. I’m very proud that within our first year we became monetary sponsors for a kids back-to-school drive set in Violet, La. I’m very proud of our growth, our brand, and what we represent.
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I read many books, but prayer and learning the art of patience has helped me in life.
