Today we’d like to introduce you to Connor Metoyer.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Originally from a smaller city in Louisiana. I grew up moving around because my parent’s jobs would relocate them quite often. Finally settled in Pearland from about middle school through high school. Dad accepted a job overseas, my mom and I stayed behind during this time. I went to a college out of the city (San Antonio) so was pretty alone, family-wise, in a city I really knew nothing about except the Alamo was there (lol). College years were rough, personal life got really rough during this time and no one even knew what I was going through. Mom and dad went through a rough time, grandma got really sick and has been on bed rest ever since, lost my other grandma, mom and I lost the house in Pearland, barely could afford to put myself through school, mom had to move back to Louisiana due to losing the house. Whew. But I made it, graduated in 2017 and moved back to Houston. I am currently supporting myself working at a veterinary hospital.
Has it been a smooth road?
Up until I turned about 17? ..everything was sunflowers and daises. Anything beyond that had definitely not been a smooth path for me. I struggled with who I was for a while, what I wanted to be. At one point didn’t even know why I was in school anymore or even how I was going to put myself through school financially. Losing the house was the biggest hit my mom and I had taken and I felt conflicted as I was in a completely different city feeling useless in the fact that I couldn’t really help her as I wanted to. Of course, my mom continued to push me to stay in school and get my degree so that’s what I did. My only advice would really be to never feel like you have to go through anything alone. I kept all of my feelings to myself and behind closed doors, I was always so angry for what I was going through. Life is not meant to be pursued alone. Yeah, I had friends but never fully confined in them about anything. Everybody’s got their own shit so don’t ever feel like you’re the only person going through something. Find one trustworthy person, even if it’s just 1, that you can be open and honest with about whatever emotions you are feeling.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into your business story. Tell us more about the business.
I currently am working at a veterinary hospital. Mainly work with dogs and cats but occasionally we get some bunnies, chicks and other smaller animals. We do everything from simple vaccines to hospitalizing patients for complicated health reasons. I actually graduated with a human medicine degree but this is close enough right? Haha.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
