Conversations with the Inspiring Deziree Propes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deziree Propes.

Deziree, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved photography! I picked up my first professional camera in journalism class in my senior year of high school. I figured that I would take this class for an easy A, and I ended up falling in love with photography. My teacher Mrs. Thibodeaux, told me that I had an eye for photography and recognized me as the spotlight of her program. Later that year, I was accepted into East Texas Baptist Univesity; I decided to continue with my new found love of photography, and work for the university’s yearbook. Later down the line, as a Christmas gift, I received a simple point and shoot camera, and at that moment I decided to truly invest in my passion with the help and support of my husband. I bought a Canon 80D, developed logos, prices, and a business Facebook page. I hit the ground running full speed ahead with ambition and drive to develop my business.

Has it been a smooth road?
So far, it’s been a smooth road, but one struggle is the competition of other photographers. Competing in a field with people that have more experience and clientele can be intimidating. My advice for other women would be to start your business early, stay consistent with your ambition, and never let anyone tell you that you can’t.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Deziree Propes Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in labor and delivery sessions. I am most proud of these shoots because I am keen on catching special, raw, beautiful moments that will be cherished for a lifetime. Other than that specialty, I am a well-rounded photographer. I’ve done business studio shoots and covered many events around the Houston area. I feel like a quality feature I have is networking with small business owners like myself.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Currently, I do not use any other resources to help me with my life and life at work.
