Conversations with the Inspiring Kisha Walwyn-Duquesnay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kisha Walwyn-Duquesnay.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always loved helping people so being a counselor came naturally. I’ve held several jobs in the mental health field over the last ten years but opening my own private practice as a mental health therapist directly aligns with my life’s purpose. To be a business owner who directly serves a need within my own community.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My biggest hurdle was knowing where to start. Honestly, I think I was sitting on my gift for a while because I didn’t learn how to be a business owner in grad school, I just learned how to be a therapist.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor at the Optimistic Counseling Practice in Houston, Texas, and owner of

I love working with Millennial female professionals and business owners who are ambitious, high achievers but feel stuck because of depression, anxiety, or low self-esteem. I teach them that being a strong woman doesn’t mean suffering in silence alone or doing everything alone. Being strong means knowing when to ask for help, learning when to delegate, and even saying no. In therapy, we work together to get their power back.

I offer a free face to face therapy consultation that you can schedule at I also have a free eBook, 10 Reasons You Might Feel Some Type Of Way Sis, available there too!

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. Since my ideal clients are millennial women, I’m fortunate to be a millennial woman! I hope it helps my clients identify with me just a little easier. There are some statistics that show that women are the most college-educated and fastest-growing entrepreneur group. So, I think women are positioned to do whatever they want!
