Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Ambers.
Melissa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my business about 15 years ago with an idea and skills. Working in Corporate America, I trained myself on Microsoft Windows because I knew I wanted to grow in my career and not stay stuck in the file room or data entry clerk. Over the years, I started to be known as the “Gadget Girl” or call Melissa she knows. Throughout the years, I rebranded about three times because as I grew and learned from mistakes my brand changed. I am not saying as any grows you should rebrand, but for me, this is what happened. As time moved (very quick), I continued to meet people, learn new things, and understand me. Yes, I said understand me. What I mean about this is that I thought I knew how and what I needed to do to grow a business, but one important thing I forgot was that as I was growing that I was changing. God placed me at an event to meet someone that eventually became my mentor and took the time to work with me. During this process, she was very harsh at times, but now that I got past that I understand what was happening and it pulled me out of a place that I was stuck. I didn’t realize that I was stuck. I prayed for growth and this is what happened and I am still growing and learning. I would tell anybody to get someone in your corner that is not a “Yes Man/Woman” and tell you what you need to hear, good or bad. I am truly grateful for this opportunity to have my face cracked and put back together. I must say it was cracked at least twice… lol. It was worth it. I have people in my corner today that still push me and I know when they tell me something that it is from the heart. Because of this is why I know my journey is nowhere close to the end. I have a lot more to give and I want to continue to meet other women and give them what I was able to receive.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. there have been many times I have sat at my laptop and say what am I doing wrong. Why do I end up in the same position that I have been digging to get out of? Sometimes, I pick up the phone to talk to someone in my circle and vent or ask for advice. When I am looking for advice, it’s not given all the time because I am challenged to think about the situation and make a decision or even go back to the whiteboard.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Behind The Scene Chic LLC story. Tell us more about it.

It’s not about being popular or in the spotlight, but what do you have to offer that can provide balance for someone else. Also, listen and be ready to learn. It’s not always going to be what you want to hear.
