Conversations with the Inspiring Mykel B Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mykel B Davis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Becoming a mother in 2015 changed my life forever. I was blessed to give birth to twin girls weighing in at 4lbs each. Unable to find resources in my area that could accommodate my ability to care for my girls, God placed the spirit of creation on my being and assigned me to the build-out of Muscle Up Mommy, Inc. I wanted to aim to create a space for women to find the remedy to their physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Though there are many many big box gyms that have a space to workout, there weren’t any that provided a space suitable to release my emotional frustrations and gain support from other mothers who could relate to my outcry. Muscle Up Mommy started as a 100%-online fitness program for moms all over the world and has turned into a mantra and staple for women to workout on a face-to-face level, receive emotional support through our monthly meet-ups, as well as have a collection of supportive garments to assist through each stage of motherhood.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has been everything but smooth. When you start a business, of course you lead with a mixture of intention, faith and discipline. What they don’t tell you is that your business plan is merely a development proposal. The demands of the women I encounter on a daily basis shifts the narrative a little bit at a time. It forces me to dig deep and provide a new solution that can remedy the hardships in their day-to-day walk in motherhood. My assignment in business grew to be a personal fight that I walk daily with clients. Our fitness training programs provide a great space to release tension, gain motivation through their day-to-day walk and helps to expand your emotional bandwidth. I started this journey solely as a personal trainer, but have grown to become a counselor, trusted friend, and sister to many. My advice to young women on a walk of motherhood is to be open to change. Understand that your life will never be as it was before. It will be greater and filled with much more substance and intention. Set boundaries. Commit to bettering yourself every single day. Have a set routine to allow for ease of transition for yourself and your household. Do not isolate yourself from friends and family that fit your future. Make new mom friends every day. Share your struggles. KNOW that you are not alone during this walk and you are not wrong for needing a break on some days.

What should we know about Muscle Up Mommy®? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a wife, mom of multiples and personal trainer by trade. I specialize in prenatal and postnatal results and working to unite women and build friendships through fitness and our alike journey’s. I am most known for my welcoming spirit, transparent journey and willingness to serve others. As a brand, I am most proud of my growth on both a personal level and professional level. The years of experience has molded me into being vulnerable and eager to let other moms know that they aren’t alone. I believe what sets me apart the most is my compassion. The drive to really get down and serve each and everyone of my clients. Everyone has a personable experience with me. Yes, I have a process to keep the business aspect running smoothly, but I believe my ability to empathize with my clients and put myself in their shoes, we’re able to really develop a friendship and an alike partnership through this ministry. This brand belongs to US as a unit, not just myself.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
Wow! The greatest opportunity we offer to women is the ability to get back to feeling like yourself. Just to have a space that we can pour our trials and frustrations and leave feeling refreshed and alive again, sets the bar for a greater tomorrow. The connections alone and the network we share cultivate opportunities of their own also. I should also mention having a selection of exclusive waist belts and anti loss wristlets to assist throughout each stage of motherhood is extemely helpful. it’s just extremely comforting knowing we have resources designed exclusively for us. The entire experience with Muscle Up Mommy® just makes the lemons a little sweeter.
