Conversations with the Inspiring Vickie Mireles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vickie Mireles.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Vickie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In the wake of losing my brother in 2013, I realized life can be short and I wanted to make my life matter. Shortly after, I read a book, My Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren and I started my first blog. Two years later, I felt another prompting to start a t-shirt line with inspirational and faith-based sayings. I always tell people that fear delayed me, but it didn’t stop me. It wasn’t until 2017, just one year ago, where I made the leap and did my first market, quit my full-time job and dove head first into this dream/calling of mine.

Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not.

When I first started feeling a prompt/calling to act upon this dream, I shared with my husband. He fully supported me, but I learned along the way when you share your dream, some people may cheer you on while others won’t. But you must remember, you don’t need anyone’s approval but God’s when it comes to your purpose. You can’t let someone’s fear, negativity or lack of belief deter you from your calling. You will need a support system, so surround yourself with people who are like minded.

Additionally, as dreamy as it sounds to follow your dream, get ready because it’s hard. Like really hard. For me, there have been days where I want to give up, but I persevere because the calling is too valuable to waste. I don’t want to look back on my life and feel like I only consumed. I want to give back by using the talents and gifts God gave me. I won’t allow fear to hold me back and I won’t allow the struggle to break me.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Sweet Hive story. Tell us more about it.
To be honest, I’m not quite different from other screen printing companies. As a business, we manually screen print each shirt/sweater by hand. However, what sets us apart is our mission. We believe that hope can be deposited into others with kind words, through inspirational and faith-based messages and through the act of giving back. Our business isn’t alive to make money, although that is necessary to fund it. Instead, we do it because the world needs it.

I currently have two collections available: the Dreamer Collection and the Warrior Collection. The Dreamer Collection was birthed through the act of following my own dream. I’ve realized so many people were like me, a dreamer, but also afraid to take the leap. I love to share my story through my blog posts as a hope that others will feel motivated knowing if this imperfect, unqualified gal can do it, so can they. And then there’s the Warrior Collection which was conceived in the midst of the struggle. I wanted people to know that while life may knock them down, they can get up. They can rise and become better because of it, not bitter.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
When I was little, I have gifted a diary for Christmas from one of my aunts. It was there at around seven years old that I found a gift of writing. I would jot down my feelings, poems or even makeup songs about my dog. I also loved to read. Those two things have helped fuel this business.

You see, I love to write, so my blogs have been not only been helpful for me but for others. I learned to be vulnerable and share my deepest fears. It knocked down walls for others to see that I’m just like them. I have insecurities, I have fears, but I also believe in God and his word. There is hope in that.

Additionally, I’ve read so many books that have laid the foundation to follow my calling. From the catalyst that started it all, My Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, to Draw the Circle and Chase the Lion by Mark Batterson to The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, this dream is alive because I found hope in the pages of their books.
