Conversations with Victor Mora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Mora.

Hi Victor, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Just wanted to let this be known right off, I am the GM of this store, the owners are from Columbus, Ohio. They’ve entrusted me with the store for obvious reasons. I’ll give as much info as possible from start to now, I just wasn’t sure as to whom you wanted to talk to. I let the owners know about this and they said go for it.

I was made aware of this brand from my brother-in-law, who is an ambassador for the brand for the past 7 years and counting. There were talks about bringing a store to Houston for a while now and they were looking for someone they could trust. Out of the 3 people they spoke to and interviewed I guess I stood out.

I had the interview in the afternoon and later that evening I received a call and was told I got the job, and from then on, I’ve been hustling. I helped with the buildout, marketing, and anything needed to make us successful, and they did everything they could to give me tools I needed to make it happen.

I was also sent for training to Gastonia North Carolina to meet the original store owners, and train under a great guy whose knowledge put me a step above, Rusty Auten.

Rusty and the owners, Colin and Dave, told me I will have pretty daunting task ahead of me, and that I will consistently hear, “what makes you better than the other guys?” I would always be compared to other brands, but the response was simple and true. We make premium car care products. We use raw materials in all of our products to ensure several things but one above all, quality. We make and manufacture all of our products in Columbus Ohio, and nothing leaves our facility to go anywhere else but in the customers hands, or on our shelves. We do not pay anyone to make our products, and Jax Wax is family owned and operated. That was more than enough for me.

We went from being a relatively unknown in the area, to a hard competitor in a matter of months. So much so, that I’ve heard and seen a lot of movements that I make being mimicked, but I love it! It shows that my team and I are doing something right and making others adjust to our rhythm. It’s as Oscar Wilde said, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.”

Jax Wax Houston has grown so much that people in the car community know that when we throw an event, it will be big, it will make waves, but above all, it will be safe!

We can’t take all the credit for safety as we have crews, clubs, and people that enjoy the “park & chill” atmosphere of the care scene and want to keep it going. They help a lot, and police their own when others want to act a little out of character. For that I have to give them all a big THANK YOU!

Our last event, Street Madness Houston was such a huge success! We had cars and builds that you would never see out at any other event. SEMA builds, race cars, exotics, JDM, you name it! People have just tied it in that when Jax Wax is involved, it’s going to be good, and we stand by our products.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Anything worth doing will always be a struggle, if it were easy everyone would do it. We have been talked about negatively, people have tried to associate the wrong that goes on in the car community with us, but that’s not the case. We provide a product that gives people a great feeling about their second biggest investment, their vehicle. We help you keep it clean and looking amazing for as long as you wish to keep it that way. What better feeling about your vehicle is there, when you walk away from it or towards it, and see it gleaming in the sun, or glisten in the light? Knowing you either did it yourself or got it done with great products that wont cost you an arm and a leg?

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We sell the products to either a professional detailer or to a DIY person. We specialize in not only our products, but also have a healthy knowledge about application and use. We train and teach, as best we can on the use of each item, or accessory to get your vehicle looking the way your want.

We have also been known to throw a decent sized event or two for car enthusiasts.

What makes us different from everyone else is simple. We make quality products from raw materials ourselves, no gimmicks, no sales pitches or ploys, just greatness.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t know if I would call it luck, being here. I am blessed to be here because of the great people I meet on a daily basis.

My customers make it so I can come into work, and do something I enjoy, and also allow me to share some of my knowledge with them, as they do with me.

I have come to be a part of people’s lives, by helping them push forward in their new endeavor of becoming a professional detailer. Giving up some of my personal time to go help them out at their shop, or at client’s house and get hands-on and dirty with them.

My job, I feel, doesn’t end when the sale is complete. I continue to help them even after that. There are times I get messages at 10pm to 2am, there is no end to it but I love it because it shows the amount of trust they have in us to point them in the right direction.
