Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Ashleigh.
Kayla, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I used to pray for ideas I always knew I was creative but I never knew what exactly what it is that I wanted to do or something to occupy my free time something that I could call mine and own it… so a few weeks later, I had a dream about sunglasses I’m not sure why but I got up and realized this was the sign… I got on my laptop and started an online boutique. At the time, I knew nothing about sunglasses other than the fact that I loved them… so weeks went by and I searched for many styles but only had $50 at the time… so with the money I had, I paid my website fee and bought eight pair of glasses just to start off… I did get discouraged because I didn’t know anything about promoting myself or getting my brand out there so I just started going to actual events learning how to socialize and network, purchased business cards and started moving! I encourage people to do something once the vision is given to them because if I would have let it just be a thought, my business wouldn’t be as successful as it is today… there are still things I am learning along the way and I’m always willing to help another upcoming business owner because I know it is not easy but stick to your vision and see how far it takes you.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road but the power of not giving up is so real… some struggles I’ve dealt with are shyness, lol. How could I get myself out there if I never spoke… so I did learn how to become a person people actually wanted to interact with such as smile more or be welcoming… my advice to other women is it’s never too late to start… I started in 2017 and I’m just now expanding here in 2019 going into 2020… everybody has to start somewhere, remember that.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with ShadesbyKC – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I sell sunglasses and accessories… to some of my friends, I’m known as the shade lady. I am most proud of how my brand has expanded over time… what sets me apart from others is that I’m willing to help others get to the next level. I don’t know everything but I do believe that a door opens for you by way of another person, meaning if a lot of us wouldn’t be where we are if it wasn’t for support.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Yes! My childhood wasn’t all that great but I am thankful for it because I always use to observe as a child-like what I wanted for my future or what I didn’t want, what kinda car I wanted to drive or what occupation I wanted to pursue by observing adults.
