Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Anyanwu.
Michelle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I fell in love with makeup at early age and I’ve never looked back since. I’ve always known whatever I did in the future would evolve around the creativity of makeup and the promotion of self-love and kindness. The two things I have always wanted was to tie in beauty with mental awareness. As in make you feel your beauty on both the inside and out. I started my YouTube channel (which I promise to be more consistent on in the future) and I started taking my Instagram more seriously when in comes to the beauty blog aspect of it. I love writing poetry hence why my Instagram name is __LoveMimi to mimic a signature right before the ending of a letter. I use my poem as captions and I’ve made a few visuals for them. One of my visuals are actually on my YouTube (Love, Mimi) and I will soon bring them to Instagram as well. I have a lot of big plans that I pray to see through, but I’m okay with where I am now. I’m still hustling to be a step closer to where I want to be everyday.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. A lot of things in my personal life was really getting to me, I felt like I wasn’t getting the reach that I wanted, and most of all I was continuously getting in my own way. I would be really good at putting content out for a couple of weeks and then I would be MIA for a month or so. Literally self-sabotage. My advice to people who are just starting their journey is to be patient. Keep going even if you feel it’s not working or it’s taking too long. Never give up and wake up everyday with a purpose. I would say read up on whatever it is you a passionate about and be never lose that passion. Believe in yourself.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Love, Mimi – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
The brand I am trying to build is mostly focused around beauty in all aspects. I specialize in makeup. I am a make up artist and I love what I do. I am most proud of the giveaways I do because it ties in my to first love mental health and beauty. I want my brand to make people feel good and I’m trying everyday to see how I can link the two. I believe what sets me apart from others is me. I don’t compare myself to others I am who I am and that sets me apart. I am Mimi and there’s no other me on earth there maybe someone who looks like me or has some of the same beliefs as me. Yet, we are all different people and being your self in the truest form sets you apart already.
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I honestly feel like the biggest barrier today in female leadership is support. Everything is not a competition. There’s enough to go around. I would love to see more support in the beauty industry and in general period.
