Life and Work with Nikki Hammonds

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Hammonds.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nikki. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started out in the beauty industry as a nail technician in the mid-’90s. Doing nails was not my passion so I burned out after a couple of years. I entered corporate America and stayed there for many years.

I felt like I was stuck in a rut so, in 2012, I decided to go back to school to get my aesthetics license. Skin was something I was always passionate about. I would give my family and friends skincare tips and product recommendations. I have always loved to make people look good and feel better about themselves. After receiving my license, I got a job at European Wax Center as a Wax Specialist. After being there for two years I felt like I was stagnant and needed to be aiming higher. I went back to school and earned my Laser Hair Removal Technician license. Fear kept me at European Wax Center for another year and a half. Finally, in 2016, I landed a job at a
busy Med Spa in Katy Texas as an LHR Technician/Medical Aesthetician, something that I prayed for. I loved my job and all of the new treatments and procedures I was learning.

By July of 2019, I was working at a Med Spa in Spring, Texas. I was in a great place in life, after recovering from a recent divorce and a lot of personal challenges. Ready to celebrate my 42nd birthday, I started thinking about another goal I had written years prior. One that had gotten lost with all of the drama of life, owning my own Med Spa. This time, I refused to let fear paralyze me and almost immediately I started to purchase products and equipment. Aenor Aesthetics & Wellness was established in August of 2019! I knew I had made the right decision because I felt a peace that I had not felt time in a long time. I was finally fulfilling my destiny.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
After overcoming my own negativity and self doubt everything else has been relatively easy. The battlefield of the mind is the hardest to overcome. Don’t get me wrong, there are going to be lots of sleepless nights and there is always something that needs to be done, however, when you’re doing it for yourself, there is a voice that will tell you to keep pushing, it will all be worth it.

Please tell us about Aenor Aesthetics & Wellness.
Aenor Aesthetics & Wellness is all about educating the client so that they can have a better understanding of their skin. I work together with my clients to develop a customized treatment plan and a customized at-home skincare regimen so that they are well on their way to having healthy, beautiful and glowing skin! A lot of people call me the chemical peel Queen, so I guess it’s safe to say that chemical peels are one of my specialties! I also specialize in microneedling, waxing and pigmentation correction. I take pride in what I do so I will always get the proper training and do the research that’s needed to give my clients the best possible care.

In a world of “the more make up the better” basic skincare can make all the difference in the world to maintaining youthful skin. I love what I do and my clients can feel that. That is what sets Aenor apart from the rest.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Find people who are established in your industry. Follow them on social media and YouTube. Connect with them, join Facebook groups, get out and introduce yourself! Surround yourself with like-minded individuals.
