Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikishia Price.
Nikishia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2013, couponing became an unspoken gift for me. I found myself laid off from my job but with a huge inventory from what at this point was a hobby to me. Then, it hit me! I could turn my gift that I secretly admired into a business! I spent countless hours formulating a plan, clipping coupons and getting myself together to become the entrepreneur I always knew I could be. With a lot of hard work and persistence Price Mart was born! As Price Mart grew so did my social media following. It’s amazing how word of mouth works! I continued gaining new customers and along the way new friends. Eventually, business was booming. Harvey really was a turning point for Price Mart.
It helped me help others in need. I had the inventory and people needed help. Without thinking twice, I stepped up and help as many people as I could. Along with the help of social media Price Mart was able to help so many people during an extremely difficult time. Unbeknownst to me someone was even watching me then too! I was awarded a congressional achievement award from the City of Houston and named a “Harvey Hero” by Ford! With that other organizations saw the impact Price Mart was having on our communities and also reached out to help. Since then, I and my associates have been helping others the best way we can!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has never been a smooth road. It has been like being in raging water in a plastic float at times. Trying to juggle being a single mother of two boys ten years apart, building, branding, helping others all while trying to maintain your composure. It has definitely been a journey but one I’m super thankful for. I’ve literally helped others from the discounted prices at PriceMart to the use of my social media to literally play Illana and fix peoples lives. Sometimes I’ve had to ask myself who’s looking out for me. But I know it’s about a bigger picture. People saw me in a light that I didn’t always want to be in but this was my purpose and even when I was tired, broke, and going through my emotions, I still feel the need to help. It’s demanding and sometimes disappointing but there is no feeling in this world better than helping others and being helped when needed. Even I need help sometimes!
Please tell us about PriceMart and Niki Price & Associates.
PriceMart has many moving parts. From clipping the coupons to strategizing the store runs for the items to rotation of inventory. My business is 100% online off of social media. I coordinate pick up and deliveries of the items within a reasonable expectation of time. Once a month, I offer couponing classes where I give supplies and a two-hour lesson on the basics of couponing as well. The thing that sets PriceMart apart is definitely my relationships I build along the way. I’m both the front and back end and delivery driver. People get to see me and know that my word is everything when it comes to delivering quality products at a discounted rate. I’m most proud of that. My ability to maintain my customers. My business is literally 80% repeat and referral customers.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory as a child is my dad coming home from work every day. Me and a childhood friend would wait in the bushes and jump out at him. He’d act scared and then give us each a pack of skittles, starburst, or m&m’s.
