Meet Amanda Ducach of SocialMama

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Ducach.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
3 years ago, I received a phone call from my best friend, Alicia, from a hospital sitting next to her 2-year-old son, Diego. A pediatrician had just told her that due to severe allergies, his brain cells were not absorbing nutrients and that he was walking down a very dangerous path. The next couple of months were VERY difficult for Alicia, she felt isolated and needed support.

My hubs and I soon realized that Alicia needed a mom friend/mentor who had a commonality with her, but also understood what it was like to live in an allergen-free household. We searched high and low for a mom matching service that could fulfill Alicia’s need, but it didn’t exist… SocialMama was born. SocialMama is a networking App for Mamas, that connects like-minded mothers for meaningful connection.

Through mentorship and friendship, a Mama has the power to change the world… we simply facilitate the meeting. SocialMama is in Beta phase (in iOS and Android) and took 2.5 years to get this far. Through countless hours of sweat, tears and interviews with women, SocialMama has created the perfect recipe for MamaMatching, and we are so excited to launch this new functionality soon!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been the biggest rollercoaster of my life. My husband, Vish Sharma, is a co-founder, and it has made our marriage so much stronger because of the bumpy road. The ups and downs are exciting and scary… but it is all worth it! Our biggest struggle is timeline… when to pivot, when to know if an idea is bad when to fundraise… the race against the clock never changes.

Lastly, in Tech, there is a general belief that you should launch an MVP (minimal viable product) WAY before the product is ready. That was really hard for me to do since I come from a completely different world than Tech. We are so proud (and a little embarrassed) by our first go at it!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about SocialMama – what should we know?
SocialMama is a networking App for Mamas. We connect like-minded profiles together based on lifestyle and unique needs (divorce, autism, etc). Our App is different because it functions like a dating App but it results in so much more than a “hookup.” A mom can find another mom with the perfect playdate chemistry but ALSO a life mentor!

Our company empowers women through connections. Mothers rule the world (and spend most of the dollars) and we believe that there are not enough resources that exist to help them meet together. We LISTEN to our members… they design the community and that sets us apart.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Everyone deserves credit…. but mainly, all the Mamas that support us. Mamas that have given their honest feedback, ideas and time means the world to us.

We have had countless friends, mentors and teammates that have made this all possible and we appreciate it so much. Every Uncle Steve or Pat deserves a shoutout!
