Meet Anna Thacker of Annamyung

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Thacker.

Anna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was a little kid, my family would always talk about how long my limbs were and how my parents needed to get me into modeling. They never did but this manifested a little seed of a dream in me and it became one of my main goals as I grew up. I never realized my potential until one of my best friends, Kayla Kurnik, started modeling and then introduced me to the industry. My first “shoot” or modeling experience in general was when I was 18, I attended Brady Pappas workshop to learn the basics like angles, lighting, and walking. I grew up in York, PA and started my modeling career with the local photographers in my area and surrounding areas. I started to venture out to Philly more and more as time went on and eventually thought about moving my life there, which included transferring colleges.

When I was 20 I transferred from Millersville University to Temple University and moved my life to Philly. I love it here so much! Since I’ve been here I have connected with a plethora of other creatives, including other models, photographers, designers, business owners, and musicians. I have attended events and done jobs for people I would never have imagined possible! Philly is my current mindset, but I have plans to relocate in the future once I graduate. I am studying Mathematics and would like to secure a job in that industry for some time, but if modeling seems to be taking off I will put finding a job on hold. I would like to move to either New York or Chicago next, but the overall plan is to not live in the United States! I have such an itch to travel the world and experience every culture!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle is finding time in my busy schedule to continue pushing for success in this industry. I also tend to receive a lot of unwanted attention from people who are infatuated with young girls. I don’t particularly love the pictures I receive in my DM’s, but most of the time my supporters are kind and appropriate. For a while I struggled to find my niche. My best friend was shooting nudes and boudoir and she was getting all these followers and all these job offers. It made me feel like in order to be successful I had to have followers and in order to get followers I had to take my clothes off. I never felt comfortable doing this so I didn’t do it. I continued to shoot pictures I was comfortable taking and found myself falling in love with portraiture and fashion.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Annamyung – what should we know?
One of the special things about me is my ability to do yoga tricks! I can do all kinds of headstand, handstand, forearm stand tricks and they make really cool pictures! I also am known for, by photographers, for having a symmetrical, unique face. I am a quarter Korean so I think the bone structure definitely comes from that! This definitely sets me apart from others because I am able to offer a unique look to clients that they can’t find everywhere. It’s not often you come across a naturally blonde-haired, grey-eyed Asian girl!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Having a positive attitude and being mindful are the two most important qualities in any successful person. I didn’t always have a positive attitude and I haven’t always been mindful – these were two habits I had to learn through experience and time. My grandma told me years ago, “mistakes make everything more beautiful” and now that’s tattooed on my right arm. Learning from your mistakes is key!
