Meet April Moore of Artistry On The Go in Beltway 8 & Briar Forest

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Moore.

April, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hey! I’m April! I was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. I graduated from Johnson C. Smith University with a BS in Business Administration-Management. After graduating from college in 2011, I decided to pursue a life long dream in the beauty industry and go to cosmetology school. There I realized making others feel beautiful was a passion of mine, and it would never go away! After graduating from cosmetology school in 2012, I went on to study more about skincare and makeup. In 2016, I created Artistry On The Go making Makeup Artistry the focal point of my career in beauty. Besides AOTG, I teach Social Emotional Learning to SPED Elementary children, I teach choir, I sing at church, and occasionally you can catch me on BGV’s somewhere around town. My dream is to be able to run Artistry On The Go as my full time career and it will happen!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all! I couldn’t tell you what a smooth road feels like! Lol, I moved to Houston because of what I saw while visiting. Houston is a place where young entrepreneurs and go getters can flourish. I wanted that so bad, and I still want that! The part they seldomly forget to mention is the growing pains before the success. I have lost two jobs in 3 years due to circumstances beyond my control, talk about struggling. Imagine being in a new city with no family and barely any friends and no job, yeah, I’m not sure either why I didn’t go back home! As of most recently, when I was finally in a decent place in life, in November, my car literally just died. It wasn’t until the beginning of January I was able to purchase a new vehicle. My mother and my father have been a tremendous help in working towards my dreams and goals. I owe them everything!

Please tell us about your work.
Artistry On The Go is a Makeup Service to all. I believe that no person should feel less than the Queen or King that they are, and if a little blush here or a slab of concealer there is what it takes for confidence to reign supreme in their lives, then let’s do it! Artistry On The Go won’t make you beautiful. God already did that. I’m just here to enhance the beauty you already have inside and out! Artistry On The Go can meet you where you are, and that goes for the location as well as your makeup journey.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think my faithfulness has rewarded me tremendously. I also know that faith without works is dead so hard work and willingness to never give up plays a major role in where I am today. Risk are risky but a smart risk can be rewarding! My online life coach (Eric Thomas) once said “When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful!” That has stuck with me for years, and I try to live my life every day with that same mindset. As my pastor always says, it’s better to Keep Up than to Catch Up!
