Meet Ashleigh Martin of Calisa’s Closet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Martin.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashleigh. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got started a year ago. It wasn’t a perfect start but I got started. I am a single mom of a four year old who believed in herself. (with a push from loved ones) I kept having these dreams of me owning a business. Everyday I would watch YouTube videos of all these other girl boss CEOs and say “That should be me”. I turned a dream into reality. It went from me taking photos in my living with my sister in the products to actually booking a real photoshoot. I think it got sincerely real for me when I had my first shoot with my best friend Karim Cole, an aspiring Photographer in New Jersey. I shot with two models, Brianna and Erin. They were helping me make my dreams come true! Then my second scare, with a pop up shop experience that me and another entrepreneur named Gabrielle Howard decided to host called The Hustle Experience.

The hustle experience was created to let entrepreneurs like myself showcase their work and network with others! The event was very successful. Today, I am no longer scared and I am happy to be a girl CEO! I went from just running a business to teaching in it as well. Calisa’s Closet hires interns all over the world giving them a platform to start a career in the fashion industry whether it’s for marketing (social media), fashion merchandising, developing campaigns, displays and advertising or personal styling.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For me, there has been some struggles. Having to be able to adapt to schedule changes while dealing with a toddler. Understanding that there will be some late nights and very early mornings but this has been rewarding. I wouldn’t change anything.

Please tell us about Calisa’s Closet.
I would say my company is known to surround itself by inspiration. We are known to promote positivity all around our platforms. CC is a fashion boutique for women that sells clothes and cute accessories such as handbags, jewelry, and in 2020 will be adding shoes to our store. As a company we are proud of our excellent customer service, to give back to the community, and provide a platform that reassures and gives women confidence to be unapologetically fabulous.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over… I wouldn’t change anything. The lessons that I have learned have made me the person I am today!
