Meet Bianca Carey of Carey Business Solutions/ TaxBee in Pearland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Carey.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My late mother, Debra Ferguson-Smith, made a huge impression on my life. She was a hard worker and always had multiple streams of income. She prepared tax returns manually as far back as my memory can take me. I am the 3rd child of four children, three girls and one boy. It was instilled in my siblings and I to always dream, follow your heart, and always be at peace with whatever decision you make. When I was 16 years old, I became apart of the Business program in our high school that partnered students with local business that provided part-time jobs. I was assigned to the City of Franklin. There I met my mentor Raymond Harris who was the CFO and later became the mayor. Raymond became a wonderful mentor to me, he owned a Tax preparation firm in our home town, also.

In 2003, I graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and went to work for the City of Franklin in accounts payable full-time. My mom passed away in 2004. This increased my already burning desire to be the best version of my self, to always represent her, and to make those dreams that she poured into my siblings and I come to fruition. I later went back to school and acquired an MBA and a Master’s of Science in Accountancy.

By the time I was 25, I became the CFO of the City of Franklin. At the time, I didn’t realized how this would define my career and open so many future doors for me. I began doing tax returns for my family and friends on the side. I also took on small bookkeeping and consultation projects. This was fostering the entrepreneur that was already ingrained in me. My immediate goal was to grow, focus and remain humble. After a successful career in Louisiana I felt change was inevitable. On a whim in 2012, I moved to Houston. I landed a job at AIG. I met and married my husband Carris Carey, who is an educator and entrepreneur. He reminded me that dreams were meant to be chased.

We met people through networking and by referrals our clientele began to grow exponential. When speaking to my clients, I took my education, experience, and the wisdom I acquired and built the philosophy of doing things the correct way. My goal shifted and it was to establish and accounting and tax firm that would be available to individuals and business owners year-round. The goal was to provide exceptional service, that would support a business owner from idea inception to execution. In addition, educate business owners on financial literary, increasing sustainability, and to create generational businesses and ventures. From this Carey Business Solutions and TaxBee was born. Carey Business solutions focusing on all elements of business and TaxBee focusing on taxation.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My business underwent a maturation process. Early on, we decided that we would continue to work out of our home until we had enough clients to take care of rent and the cost of having and office space. After that goal was met we transitioned to finding a space. We secured a new location and then hurricane Harvey hit, delaying our build-out for a year. But this allowed me to continue to gain more clientele.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Carey Business Solutions/ TaxBee specializes in accounting and tax preparation for individuals and businesses. We refer to ourselves as your business CFO. We pride ourselves in maximizing refunds and minimizing tax burdens by using continuously educating ourselves on the changes in tax laws.

I believe that education and experience set my company apart from my competitors. We are subject matter experts that believe in the creation of wealth and sustaining it.

The things I am most proud of is when my clients can buy homes purely through entrepreneurship, getting the funding for their business ideas by creating a solid business plan, and watching my client’s businesses grow under my direction and become highly profitable.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I’ve always been an entrepreneur, I have the working hands to prove it. I’ve always been really vocal for things that mattered to me. But more than anything else I wanted to succeed. My siblings, Umeki, Andrea, and Floyd has always been my first customers to everything I’ve tried. They simply believed in me.
