Today we’d like to introduce you to Carina Delgado.
Carina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My passion started when I was 16 years old. I would spend a lot of time trying to recreate every makeup look in my favorite magazine Seventeen. While in cosmetology school I started working for MAC Cosmetics where my technique and artistry for makeup grew tremendously. But I gained more then that during the six years there I love all the beautiful woman that sat in my chair. Something about making a woman feel confident and beautiful about themselves made me feel a joy I can’t explain. Some of these ladies cried and shared deep stories about their lives and we became friends till this day. That is my favorite part of what I do knowing that I can help woman and young girls feel powerful with just a little touch of glam inside and out! I couldn’t see myself doing anything else and that’s why I’m very proud to come across The Glamour House Studios where I was able to open up my own studio of business. While still working with such inspiring woman in the industry.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Easy!???…. I wish it was but there were many day of doubts and fear of failing. Leaving my Assistant Manager position with MAC was a bit scary coz let me be real I wasn’t the most responsible person financially. I was young and careless with my money I didn’t have that much saved up before. Still live with my parents and I’m Grateful they have been very supportive with my career path. I found a job as a receptionist in a salon where I learned the ins and outs about owning a business and different forms to build clientele. They transitioned me into the floor to work on clients for hair and makeup which was great in was able to finally utilize my cosmetology license. I was able to work and focus on my hair timing because I never really had the practice after getting my license. Then I decided to leave the salon and look for a place of my own when I can continue to build my clientele. The hardest part about the journey was looking for a part-time job that gave me the flexibility to still have time for my business and I felt like I was going from job to job and at one point I felt like I was getting nowhere just trying to make money for my bills.
Then I realized I wasn’t happy with myself took some time away not focusing on my business and trying to get my health together. Started working at a gym because 1) I could stay motivated with my health 2) I realized I had to get a job that was not in my career field where I could have weekends off. Almost from the start the gym knew about my business and they worked with my schedule because I also never let them down at work. At the point is where my true focus and motivation started to build my clientele. It is true what they say If you wanna be successful in life there are somethings you have to sacrifice. There are days that I was sooo dead tired I don’t even know how I did it working seven days a week over 40hours. That was including my job and hustling my business on the side. Even till this day I have moments like that but god, my family and friends remind me I’m always on the right path.
Please tell us about Whimsy Glam Studio.
My business is called Whimsy Glam Studio a name that had been on my mind since I worked at MAC. I’m a Makeup Artist and Hairstylist for any special occasion. I’m known for being open minded and not staying with one specific look. What do I specialize on?…Well, if I specialized in one thing then I wouldn’t feel like a true artist. An artist should always challenge themselves and continue growing. My work is on everything from weddings, quinceaneras, natural beauty, dramatic glam, specialfx and theatrical. But I do have to say my focus is to always enhance my client’s look and not making them appear like a completely different person. I feel like there are sooo many proud moments
as your business grows even if they are small moments. I do have to say having this opportunity to be in a magazine is my current proudest moment.
My favorite memory as a child I would have to say the weekends. Because it was a time to spend with family specially on Sunday after church we always went to lunch at Lubys! Then we would go shopping and till this day it’s one of my favorite pass times with my mom because it feels like we will always play dress up in the stores shopping for each other.
