Meet Aquila Tyson of Champions Global in North

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aquila Tyson.

Aquila, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After serving faithfully in ministry for over 17 years, God spoke to my husband and I in November 2016, that we would lead our own ministry. We held a small introductory meeting in our home to announce it. There were initially three families who believed God called them to be part of the vision. Although the numbers were small, we knew we heard from God about the assignment. Understanding the character of God, we qualified, because He does his best work with few.

Today, we lead an amazing team of leaders, who are committed to the vision. They are agents of change, impacting and influencing the lives of others in our community. Our purpose is to teach the Kingdom of God, build and disciple others through the word.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. After 90 days we had families to leave the ministry, we were involved in a contract dispute with the hotel due to the noise level, we didn’t have full-time musicians, a worship leader or adequate volunteers, just to highlight a few of the challenges.

Through it all, God remained faithful. I have a saying, “if what you presently see doesn’t look like what you saw in the vision, then what you see is only temporary.”

Please tell us about Champions Global.
Champions Global is a non-profit ministry in the Houston area. I Co-Pastor with my husband, Pastor Chris Tyson. We are honored to serve such an amazing team of leaders.

Over the past two years, we have served our community with hundreds of backpacks, food and clothing drives, in addition to our monthly youth events, known as SWAG (Standing With Another Generation). We are committed to leaving a deposit in the next generation. We are also focused on building leaders that will impact, influence and empower others.

What sets Champions apart is our message! Our message is not traditional in any way. We teach what Jesus taught, that is the Gospel of the Kingdom. So you ask what is the Kingdom? The Kingdom is a government, led by a king over a territory, impacting (the domain) with his will, intent, and purpose.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Good question, our answer is simple, we wouldn’t change anything. It is through the process that our faith in God has been strengthened. Notice I said, our faith in God, not things or in people. God is the only one who is stable. He will never leave or forsake us. Our faith is unshakeable because we are in an UNSHAKEABLE KINGDOM.
