Today we’d like to introduce you to Chester Williams.
Chester, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have worked at Bush Intercontinental Airport for over eight years and it seems like a never-ending story of the amount of people who need help on what to do, where to go or wondering if this and that is allowed on a plane or through security. I love helping people and giving knowledge to others. Sometimes my help isn’t as useful if passengers receive the information too late. Air travelers with special needs, parents with children or people who are in charge of a large group sometimes may have it hard or may need an extra hand. The end result potentially turns into a stressed person who is about to miss their flight, someone who has spent more money than planned, spent too much time on the wrong thing or just overall bad experience. I then realized that people would be better off if they somehow knew the information before they arrived at the airport or if they received guidance most of the time while at the airport.
With my wife having over five years of ABA Therapy experience and I having over eight years of airport experience, we were able to develop a service that can assist not your averages traveler, but people who may have special needs or major difficulties getting through the airport.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We launched originally in August 2017, but that was the month Hurricane Harvey hit Houston and pushed us back a bit. On top of my wife being 37 weeks pregnant, we had our hands full. Eventually, around the end of the year, we were able to get back on task.
Nothing is smooth about running a business. If it’s not one thing, it’s another. Despite negative opinions about our concept and how people can do things on their own, I see money and time as key factors in it being a tough process. Paying your regular bills on top of trying to support your business or taking care of your family while trying to spend time on researching for your business. I didn’t know much about running a business, but I knew I had an idea and a problem that needed to be solved.
Guru Airport Services LLC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Guru Airport Services is a travel company that specializes in assisting all air travelers on all aspects of preparing for a flight. From before they leave home to arriving at the airport for depart or when they are arriving at a Houston airport and need help trying to navigate through the airport. Although people can research what they need on their own, they tend to overlook or never find the main information they need to know. Our services are more in-depth, direct and precise with exceptional customer service and satisfaction.
The first service we created is our preparation and planning airport training class which is less than 2 hours. This gives passengers airport etiquette and knowledge on everything they need to know before they arrive at the airport. Packing strategies, what to expect when checking in at the airline counters, what to expect and how to process through TSA security efficiently and effectively to minimize personal delays and so much more. We hold classes at our office location, at the location provided by the customer or we can hold a virtual class as well.
Any air traveler can benefit from this service, but it is great for non-frequent flyers, parents traveling with kids for the first time, people who travel for work, large groups, people with special needs and so much more.
The second service we provide is a Personal Airport Assistant. This service comes with a complimentary preparation phone call a day or more before a flight. This assist with packing strategies, documentation preparation, and specific terminal routes to meet the assistant. The assistant then assists with checking in, security preparation and quickest routes to your gate once through security. If the airline permits, we will then escort passengers all the way to their gate.
This was created for all the passengers who need an extra hand or overall guidance getting through the airport. People like parents traveling alone with children, foreigners, senior citizens and more.
Our third service is a Phone Personal Assistant. This service is the same as the Personal Airport Assistant but everything is conducted over the phone. Even once you get to the airport, we can navigate you step by step on where to go and what to do from the phone just like we would in person.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
