Today we’d like to introduce you to Damion Alexander and Larry Reeves.
Damion and Larry, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Pop Savvee Clothing initially started as a statement, t-shirt brand idea in Los Angeles, CA. This idea eventually grew into an activewear brand. After months of considering different names, we eventually came up with a significant, unique brand name.
Before going into production, we identified our target market and our competitors. We merged high-quality material with simple graphic designs to exhibit our creative and innovative ideas. After relocating to Houston, TX, we introduced the world to the “PS Dot Logo” and the “Rectangle Logo”, by way of apparel and accessories. Next, we created a savvy, online platform to market and distribute our merchandise.
Lastly, we created a strong social media presence, engaged in hand-to-hand sales, networked with other like-minded business professionals, and marketed the brand at local events to increase our brand name recognition.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s difficult to stand out in an over-saturated market, because there are so many different brands that exist today. Which means, we’ve had to be more creative, market more aggressively, and price our products more effectively. Currently, we are working towards gaining a more competitive edge… By raising more capital to increase our marketing efforts, and by building a larger, more effective team.
Pop Savvee Clothing – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
First things first, we have never enrolled in or attended any fashion institutions. We just always had a knack for fashion… Ever since our introduction to the classic fashion brands – Ralph Lauren Polo, Levis, Guess Jeans, etc.
Utilizing our brand name and logo, we provide screen printed and embroidered apparel such as t-shirts, hoodies, caps and accessories. Some of our accessories are actually handmade by ourselves. Our apparel and accessories can be purchased from our company website, social media platforms, as well as local events that cater to fashion. Everything is handled by the brand owners, Damion and Larry… Including marketing, sales, graphic design, manufacturing, product purchasing, event booking, etc.
We set ourselves apart from the competition by not following trends… Because, trends come and go. Pop Savvee utilizes quality fabrics that are light weight, comfortable, and less likely to shrink or fade after washing. We tend to focus on simple, eye-catching graphic designs. At Pop Savvee, we also take our time with the color selection process. Knowing which colors pop, and are hot, can help you move product much quicker. We are very open and accepting to customer feedback. Occasionally, we make adjustments to some of our products after listening to our customer’s suggestions and recommendations. And, that’s why we appreciate each and every one of our customers. Because without them, our brand wouldn’t exist.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Our proudest moment would be in May 2017, when we picked up our initial inventory from the same company that manufactured Los Angeles Laker, Lonzo Ball’s, Big Baller Brand.
Also, the moments we gifted celebrities and artists such as the late Nipsey Hussle, DJ Envy (The Breakfast Club), David Banner, E-40 , Z-RO and James Prince (Rap-A-Lot Records)
