Today we’d like to introduce you to Garrin Chillis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Garrin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I started off singing, and I never thought about modeling. The thought of modeling did not come until I turned 17 years old. I researched online and stumbled upon agencies close to the Galleria mall. The scout at the agency asked me and mother did I ever consider modeling, of course I told her no. She convinced me to sign with a local agency in Houston and I started doing test shoots. The agency wanted to make sure I was photogenic and knew how to pose. After some quick tips on how to pose and walk. I began doing shows at different malls in the Houston area. Modeling was not easy however I managed to book gigs and met many amazing people. I liked the opportunities I was giving but felt the desire to finish college. After graduating from Texas Southern University in 2017, I realized that modeling wasn’t the same.
Now currently it is about how many followers you possess, it is also about having a really exceptional and striking look. I did not book as many jobs as I did when I was first signed to my first agency. I also noticed that looks come and go in the modeling industry. I freelanced for a while and was really depressed on not booking a lot of jobs. I again signed with another agency in Houston and slowly but surely began booking shows and doing photo shoots with different photographers. I recently locked in Miami fashion week as well as New York fashion week. I experienced the grind of a model in New York city, from figuring out the subway train, to networking at different fashion events . I realized that personality goes a long way. I am doing what makes me happy and if anyone is inspired to model, I have two helpful suggestions on what to expect. First is harsh criticism, use that criticism to perfect your skills and overall appearance. Second never stop no matter how hard it gets, keep going until you reach your goal.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not a smooth road. When I stopped modeling, went to college, and tried to model again. It was very difficult for me to book gigs in the beginning.
What else should our readers know?
I am a part-time model signed currently to Nuima agency in Houston. I am proud of the agency because it’s like a family and what sets us apart, is how all of the models look after one another. I think that pretty darn awesome!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood would be spending time with my mother. Her singing to me at night.
