Meet Tarethia Osborne of Heavenly Kreations Pastries in Northside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tarethia Osborne.

Tarethia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, I love food and love to eat lol. As a kid, my grandmother on my mom’s side cooked six days a week and enjoyed it. So naturally, I picked up on the habit of cooking. By high school, I discovered the love of braiding and styling hair but didn’t quite keep up with it. By the age of 19, I was married with a handsome son and a few years later, a beautiful baby girl but felt like life was passing me by.

So, my family on my dad’s side are very talented and tried to persuade me to join the medical field that many of them were in. I tried and just didn’t have a passion for it. I felt like I was missing out on something. So, out of frustration, I sat in my bed and literally called out to God and asked “Where should I go, what should I do, and What do you think I would be great at?

That night seriously, I had a dream that I was teaching a classroom full of college students the science of baking. I had a cute outfit on and my little pointer pointing at the breakfast pastries and at the chalkboard. The pastries were so beautiful!! I woke up excited and was like God really, food, lol. Ever since then, I hit the ground running!!!

How I got to where I am today? I give it totally to God!! All the blood, sweat, fear, and tears all belong to him!!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Lord no, it has not been smooth, I decided to go back to college in my 30s. You heard right, my 30s lol. That in itself was hard. I had forgot so much stuff from high school but when God gives you instructions and a vision DO IT lol. I had two kids, a part-time job, and was a full-time student. Early mornings with chefs and late nights with kids’ homework and mines. It was hard like crying hard but so well worth it. I had also suffered to deaths my loving grandfather and my ex-husband. Many people don’t know how strong you are until strength is all you have.

Those two deaths were supposed to take me out mentally, but what I discovered was not only baking and cooking was my passion but it also was my therapy. When you cook or bake you get to zone out the troubles of the world. You get to focus on your edible creation and tap into a whole world of edible imagination that is so extraordinary!

Also, I struggled with getting myself out there. I’m such a quiet person and so not social but I been working on it.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Omg, my favorite two memories are sneaking in my grandmother’s kitchen late at night and fixing me a pan of sweet cornbread and eating it like it was cake, lol. Another memory was my other grandmother taking me to carnivals, rodeos, and Disney world enjoying all the different foods and desserts.
