Meet Jaquetta D. Franklin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaquetta D. Franklin.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jaquetta. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always been interested in all things Real Estate but I actually didn’t have the confidence to step out on faith and really pursue my passion for it until about 2016. At that time, I was unhappily employed as a Commercial Operations Specialist for a Retail Energy company. I had been at the company for six years and had a pretty great salary but felt that I was not living up to my potential. I was doing nothing to fulfill my purpose.

In the back of my mind, I absolutely knew what I wanted to do. I just didn’t know how I would make it happen. The reason I wanted to pursue a career in Real Estate was to be able to educate our community on the importance of homeownership and other aspects such as investing and having income properties. Many people often become the first to own a home in their families and some just don’t think homeownership is attainable. So there was my reason but I needed a plan of action. I didn’t know anyone that was in Real Estate so I didn’t know where to start.

After a few conversations with my support system, my husband, Jonathan Franklin, I started taking my real estate courses online, still while working my full-time job. Completed all of my courses, Passed my license exams but it wasn’t easy. It took me two tries for National and 3 for State. I knew the information but I’m one of those people that gets test anxiety. A few times, I wanted to give up but I kept pushing because I knew that my daughter was watching and I needed to show her that you have to work hard and be persistent with trying to achieve your goals. So then I had to decide on a Real Estate brokerage to begin my new career. I met with different brokers for sponsorship and decided it would be best for me to be apart of a team so that I could gain more knowledge. My team lead has helped guide me through my Rookie stage and now I can successfully guide my clients with all of their realty needs as I am now gearing up to enter my 3rd year as a Realtor.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It most definitely has not been a smooth road. When I first started the biggest struggle for me was not being on a set 9-5 schedule. As a Realtor we have to be ready, willing and available to answer questions and concerns for our clients. Not only for clients but we also have to work with home builders and lenders so everything is not going to be done when you’d like. It is literally a 24-hour nonstop hustle.

Another struggle I’ve had was getting my very first client. When you’re new some may not want to take a chance on you. It could because they feel you don’t have enough experience to be able to actually help them. I was blessed enough that eventually, I was able to utilize my family and friends as clients.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a Realtor on the Darian Harden Home Buying & Selling Team of Realty Associates. I represent clients interested in buying, selling, leasing, investing and even apartment leases. I am proud to be on a team that offers so much support for myself as a Realtor and my clients. I strive to educate my clients with the home buying process by providing tips related to home buying and ownership. These tips range from Credit Utilization to Assistance Programs. What sets me apart from other Realtors is that I am focused on helping our community become homeowners. Whether if they want to own a home for themselves or to use as an income property. I want to help them. Yes, there is money in Real Estate but I believe that if I do my job by fulfilling my purpose and actually making a difference the money will come. I want to build relationships with my clients and peers that also work and contribute to this industry. Relationships are what will carry you through your career.

Also my YouTube channel will be launching in 2020. This will be a vlog series used to help new Real Estate agents and those interested in becoming an agent by taking them along on my journey with tips, experiences and discussions. You’ll witness the highs, the lows and everything in between on my road to “Putting Our Community on The Path to Homeownership”.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment was getting my clients to the closing table for the first time. I was proud because these clients went through so much to get there. There were a lot of ups and downs and some “almost gave up” moments for them but I kept encouraging them and doing everything I could to make sure they would become homeowners. Seeing them at the closing table and the emotional outbursts was overwhelming and it just solidified why I do what I do.
