Meet Joseph Young of JC’s Computer Werks in Missouri City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Young.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am 52 years old and retired from the US Navy in 2003. After retirement while working other jobs in and out of the computer field I was always tinkering (fixing) people’s computers. In 2008 I decided to take a leap of faith and quit my current job as an IT consultant and venture off on my own to start a mobile computer service and repair business.

I started business on Jan 1, 2009, I was raring to go but had no clue whose computer to fix! I had forgotten one part of my business plan and that was advertising. I built a horrible website and hired a guy from Craigslist to hand out fliers about my new business. Very humble beginnings and it started out very slowly, but after a few weeks I started to get more and more phone calls and the rest is history. Now there are over 1800 clients and I receive many new referral calls each week. I work alone and appreciate all of my clients. Life is good!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being a one man show every problem/issue/solution is all me. I really enjoy computers/electronics so every day has been interesting. One of biggest the struggles early on was not having anyone else to collaborate with when a problem I couldn’t figure out came up. But you work through it and the internet is always helpful. There is an answer to every computer issues, knowing where to find the answer is always the key.

Please tell us about JC’s Computer Werks.
My catchphrase is, “Is Your Computer Driving you Crazy”. One of the most fulfilling parts of my job is seeing frustrated clients who have some sort of computer issue and being able to solve the issue for them in their home or business in a timely manner.

I go to homes and small businesses and perform service and repair functions on everything that has to do with a Computer. Hardware repair and replacement, software troubleshooting and installation. I also build custom computers for specialized applications and also computer networking. I am basically a jack of all trades end user technical support technician.

I think in 8 years of business I am most proud of my ability to put any frantic client at ease. When I come into your home or business I am completely confident that I will be able to solve your computer issue. I like to think what sets me apart is my timeliness and reliability in getting any job done or at least finding a solution to your computer problems.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Knowing what I know now if I had to start this business from square one I simply would have started it earlier after I retired from the Navy. I think this is what I was destined to do in my life. But, I also know timing is everything!
