Meet Kelli Bunch of KB Table in Inside the Loop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelli Bunch.

Kelli, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Wow! Where do I begin? Many may say that I’m “lucky” for taking a passion and hobby and turning it into a career. I knew I wanted to be a chef from a very young age. Much of my childhood was spent in the kitchen; My mom always had a hot, home-cooked meal waiting for us at the dinner table. When I was in the third grade, my dad and I made a pact that when I graduated from college, he would send me to culinary school. And I certainly held him to that promise! After completing my undergraduate at the University of Mississippi, I quickly decided to further my culinary studies and enrolled at the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena, California. At the completion of my culinary education, I moved back home to Houston. Since then, I have worked for one of Houston’s premier catering companies and had the great privilege of working as a personal chef to President George H.W. Bush and Late First Lady Barbara Bush. It was during my time spent with the President and First Lady that I decided to fully commit myself to further KB Table’s success.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Lord no. Like any small business starting out, you experience many bumps and roadblocks along the way and that is entirely part of the game. Some of the best words to live by are the simplest- learn from your mistakes. I use those bumps as learning experiences of what not to do, etc.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the KB Table story. Tell us more about the business.
KB Table is a boutique catering operation servicing the Houston metropolitan area. We specialize in custom, full-service catering- from event planning, florals, rentals, invitations- you name it and we got you covered. Each and every menu we create is different and unique- which is why we pride ourselves on being one of Houston’s few custom catering companies. Not one menu is the same and the possibilities are endless! Although we do have our fan favorites—mini picadillo empanadas and our bacon-wrapped mascarpone quail!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Hm…this is a hard one! I don’t really believe in luck per se- good or bad. However, I do believe that good things come to good people. Hard work and determination are two key factors that I strongly believe have a role in success.
