Meet Kendra Carter of Beauty Beauxtique in Southwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Carter.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kendra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey in esthetics started two years ago when I made a decision to take the leap from corporate America to following my passion. When I was a young girl, I knew that I wanted to do something in Cosmetology. However, following the advice of others I instead opted to go to college and study Business. Eventually, I obtained a Master’s in Business Administration while climbing the corporate ladder at one of the largest health insurance companies in the U.S., exceeding a 6 figure salary mark. However, I felt unfulfilled in my day to day. I was grateful to be employed and have a means to support my family.

Although I was great at my profession in the corporate world I knew that I was not passionate about the work that I was doing. I started to ask myself “what are you passionate about and what would make you happy”. Cosmetology came to mind, however I knew at this stage in life I was no longer interested in doing hair but I was totally into skincare. I pondered on it for a while. After Hurricane Harvey the universe aligned for me in a way that allowed me to embark on my journey and I have not looked back since. I enrolled in an 11 month evening program which allowed me the opportunity to continue to work my 9 – 5. Although it was exhausting it was worth it. I worked during the day and went to school M-TH 5:30 – 10pm all while having a family to tend to. Thankfully, they were extremely supportive. I was gone away from home a lot but they were understanding and saw the bigger picture.

A year prior to enrolling in esthetics school, I took a Microblading course and I incorporated that into my esthetics career to create Beauty Beauxtique and the rest is history.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. There have been many obstacles. One of my biggest challenges in the beginning was building clientele. I assumed people would just come once the business was open and that just was not the case. 90% of esthetics business clientele is referral based. I had to work hard and consistently produce quality work to get to a place where my clientele is consistent. I ensure that I am always on time and get my clients in and out as quickly and efficiently as possible while providing world-class customer service. We talk and laugh and when they leave I know they feel good and that makes me happy.

When faced with any obstacle, I look at the bright side, find a positive, I deal and keep going. I refuse to give up because I believe this is what I was really meant to do in life. Through all of the obstacles I have become stronger and wiser.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Beauty Beauxtique story. Tell us more about the business.

This creates and instant and long term tightening and anti-aging effect without any cutting, bleeding, injections, or chemicals.

We are most proud of the fact that we creating a real Boutique for Beauty. We intend to continue to grow our business and expand our menu of services. Our motto is “Your Beauty Is Our Business”.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Year over year the industry continues to grow by leaps and bounds. People are looking younger and becoming healthier. According to the 2017 Modern Aesthetics business review revenues are projected to grow at an 8% average annual pace from 2017 – 2022 with Texas leading the charge followed by California and Florida.

Microblading and Semi-Permanent make up in the U.S. have taken off like a rocket within the past few years and I don’t expect to see that change anytime soon.

I am excited by how technology is changing allowing for services such as Plasma Skin Tightening that are non-invasive and have minimum downtown that are accessible to clients at a fraction of the cost of surgeries with comparable results.
