Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTasha Kennard.
Hi LaTasha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, and raised in Franklin, Louisiana. At the age of 13, I was adopted and moved to Houston, Texas, on the southwest side of town, also known as S.W.A.T. I have one beautiful daughter, three beautiful stepdaughters, a wonderful boyfriend and a human dog name Baank. I grew up in & out of foster care with my three brothers from the ages of two till I was 13 years old. Growing up without my mother and father and not much love and support has taught me a lot. One thing for sure is how to truly love. I knew if I could love and give back to others, I would prosper.
After graduating high school, I knew I wanted to work in the medical field because I had a passion for helping people. With hard work and dedication, I pursued and earned my Certified Nurses Assistant License, my Medical Assistant License and my Medication Administration License. With over 20 years of experience, I have worked in various settings, nursing homes, hospitals, assistant livings, traveling from state to state, working with activities in assisted living’s and working for one of the top rehabs in America Tire Memorial Hermann. Working with many patients, I seen there was a need to be met that was beyond the services being offered to the patients.
In 2019, I got hurt at work and knew I had to make a change. I prayed and asked God to lead me in the direction he wanted me to go and he spoke to me, “What are you doing? I’ve given you all the skills to work for yourself”. So, I came up with a business plan and started working towards opening my own non-medical home health business. Something I’ve thought about doing for many years but never thought I would be able to do such a thing. At the same time dealing with day-to-day pain from the work injury, I still got up and put in the work. Some days I didn’t know what direction to go, but I did lots of researching and all that state required for me to obtain my state license. I shared my goals with my brother Brandon Turner my boyfriend Cory Webb & my sister Ebony Hart along the way and they were all on board to help & keep me encouraged. They assisted me in every way possible to get my business off the ground. Elite Embrace Home Health Care, LLC has been up and running in Houston and the surrounding area, and we are in the process of opening an Assistant Living Home in 2022.
Elite also hosts a Pop-up shop annually called “Elite Pop Up Shop.” And run an online store called “Elite Embrace Body Care.” Where we sell Sage, Sea Moss Waist Trainers and more. Our brand is growing and we look forward to many more adventures along the way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely no smooth road. I started my business right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, so it was hard not being about to talk to people face to face rather wait on a response via email bc calling was not always an option. Having lots of patience and faith definitely helped me get through a lot.
