Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Egwuatu.
Leah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Walking by faith is easier said than done and it has made me into the woman I am today. I’m still learning, still growing, still leaning on Him!
I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Houston; I met my husband of 12 years and counting during my time there as well. After a few years in the Information Technology field, I left to go home and raise our then one-year-old son which was a deep desire of my heart. once home, I started my blog and IG account and tailored them both toward health and fitness!
Infertility struggles and all, God blessed us with two more children, and I documented my fit pregnancies via my social media platforms. I had become a group fitness instructor while I worked in I.T. and would teach classes at Lifetime City Centre before and after work most days; I kept teaching through all three pregnancies as well. I received a ton of support, feedback, encouragement, and more questions! I even began to receive DMs and emails from brands for collaboration requests! God absolutely answered my prayers concerning contributing financially to my family again.
Instagram has been SUCH a blessing in my life and I desire to always use my platform for GOOD (to encourage, inspire, and educate) and ultimately for His glory! My husband, Sonny, was laid off from the I.T. field a few years later and we created an online fitness company with his brother and master trainer. We were able to serve thousands of clients and have since grown and upgraded! Sonny and I created a new company and named it Fit Phix; we also have a downloadable Fit Phix app where all sorts of home and gym workouts are personalized with nutrition plans as well.
I made the difficult decision to leave lifetime in September of 2018 after almost ten years of teaching there. I knew God was telling me to go but I didn’t want to leave! Stepping out on faith has made me lean on Him that much more and a year later, we are still going strong with our online programs and have added weekly women’s classes and weekend fit camps for our local clients!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Social media makes it look as if all roads to success are smooth and straight! That’s definitely not my reality. Our road has been filled with potholes, disappointment, hurdles, and pain before our successes but we look at each one of those experiences as necessities for growth. Those experiences shape, prepare and equip us for even more obstacles up ahead.
Please tell us about Fit Phix.
Fit Phix is an online and local fitness company headquartered in Houston, Texas. Our app houses our client’s personalized workouts (via video) and nutrition plans as well as progress documentation! We offer one-on-one training as well as small group training for women & pre/postnatal moms, and co-ed weekend fitness camps.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up in the Acres Homes community and my parents still reside there today! Their home sits on a 5-acre plot of land and my favorite childhood memories would have to be playing outdoors with my brother growing up. We spent so many hours exploring the outdoors all year round! My children LOVE to go spend a few days with my parents and play out in those same fields I grew up enjoying.
