Meet Lenesha Jones of Neesh In The Streets in North

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lenesha Jones.

Lenesha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I’d always wanted to write for a magazine. I worked on the newspaper staff all the way through college however I didn’t take the steps to get to my dream thereafter. Fast forward, and here I am, two degrees in hand and I’m a classroom teacher. How the hell did that happen? Don’t get me wrong, I loved my job but I knew I was missing out on my purpose. I began writing about general topics plaguing millennials; things that we all experience but never talk about.

I started my blog, Jibber Jabber, as part creative writing hobby, part therapy. In creating posts I began to unpack a lot of things that I had been struggling with and that I would later find out that many people around me were also struggling with as well. I decided to expand my writing to cover my life experiences and not just my thoughts and what better way to share experiences than through social media.

#Neeshinthestreets is actually an extension of my blog, I enjoy being on the go and experiencing new things. I’m lucky to live in a city that offers so much and so I decided to journal my findings as I explored Houston. My InstaStories caught the eye of several Black business owners in Houston and I was asked to run their social media pages for their special events. Through these opportunities, I created my social media service “Big Neesh Takeovers”, where I run packages to create content on business’s social media pages.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. I struggled with a business plan seeing as how social media is just now being recognized as business tool. It can be hard trying to persuade a small business that it would be beneficial to budget for a social media service.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I provide social media services to small businesses or affordable prices on an as needed basis. I also act as a brand ambassador for several companies to promote their products on my social media pages. I’m most proud of the uniqueness of Big Neesh Takeovers.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future include growing my brand and gaining more opportunities.
