Meet Maria Jefferson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Jefferson. (center of photo)

Maria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am known as Shug, I developed a passion for cooking at a very young age. But I didn’t know that would become a passion of mine till later on down the line. I actually was determined to succeed in the medical field… earning a degree in Home Health Care and started working my way up the ladder into the medical field.

Caring for others has always been a great passion of mine, whether it’s feeding you a home cooked meal to nurturing, I’m simply just cherishing the joy I bring to individuals because we all know when the food is good it brings smiles and joy into individuals lives.

Seeing people’s reactions and hearing their feedback was one of my motivations for starting Shug Your Personal Cook over three years ago, starting in Arkansas but made my way to Texas two years ago, so I could expand more.

I’m all about teaching the community about the values of friends and family.

So, my family and I have been dedicated to helping the homeless individuals all around Texas for over a year now by feeding them healthy meals, providing hygiene bags and clothes, etc…

One of my business goals is to one day own my very own food truck so we can continue helping the homeless in the Texas community.
A lot of people wonder-
Where Did The Nickname Shug Come from?
The name “Shug” is actually a childhood nickname.
“Give me Shug.”
Was something she would say as a little girl when she wanted a kiss.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course, the road hasn’t been easy, picking what we would like to eat isn’t either. So, with that being said, it’s not about the struggle it’s about what you choose to do with it once it presents itself.

I never thought I would end up here in Texas, relocating my family and to top it off restarting the business in a whole different area after building a name for myself back home has been very very challenging, but I keep a few things in mind to keep me going. Your biggest motivation is self and the best thing you can do is handle the test firmly:
1. aim high, be okay with starting low, celebrate and keep going
2. being clear and understanding of the goals of my success and what it looks like
3. remind self of why my goal is important
4. keep track of your own performance, in order to succeed

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Shug Your Personal Cook – what should we know?
Shug specializes in preparing homemade meals for any event/occasion.

Shug’s meal prep is focused on bringing families and friends back to the dinner table by offering friendly and affordable services.

Book Shug for events/holiday meal prep, birthday parties, business meetings/brunch, in-home candlelight dinner or can be done at any location with cooking area, cooking classes/lessons, senior meal prep, in-home cooking service, also offering service to realtors 🤔❤ and more.

You can even order meals to-go for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Did I mention you can also place an order for weekly meal prep 👩‍🍳?

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Would like to thank my family for supporting me, standing right by my side throughout this journey when the roads were smooth and a little rocky but without the community help with making donations to donating clothes, shoes, socks, etc. it would’ve been impossible to continue our journey towards helping the homeless.

Pricing:
• In Home Cooking lessons – learn how to cook with Shug starting as low as $50 depends on number of guest, food choice, etc…
