Meet Martin Hernandez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martin Hernandez.

Martin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been doing portrait photography for a little over seven years now. However, my journey defined itself after the passing of my grandma in 2014. When I learned that my grandma only had one picture of her youth, it struck me. It led me to think about my own pictures and how each photo tells a story, a memory that perhaps I would not have remembered on my own. By that, I was fascinated by how life just flies by and how moments we often take for granted vanishes right before our eyes. That was the pivotal moment for me in which the value of photography became important.

Fast forward four years, countless photo sessions later and here I am. Serving my clients with a purpose to tell a story through pictures. We now photograph weddings, quinceaneras, and other special events. What started as a hobby has now become a business.

Has it been a smooth road?
My entrepreneurial journey has not been easy. I’ve faced challenges of discouragement and setbacks. There was a time when I had completely stopped taking pictures because my camera was malfunctioning, and I had no money. And with a college load on my shoulders, I really did not have the money to reinvest into my business. Discouraged and with no funding, I stopped. I was discouraged for a bit but then I was given an opportunity to reignite my photography passion when I started to intern with Steve Lee. He took me in and became my mentor and teacher for the next three years. While I did not have a camera of my own, he would lend me his. After graduating from college and gaining my finance degree from the University of Houston, I quickly started to build my business again. It’s been growing steadily over the years and it’s so refreshing now to think back at how I did not quit even when I had nothing.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a photography business specializing in weddings, quinceanera, and portraits. We are most proud of how long we’ve come and how our clients are happy with their results that they continue to come back year after year. As a highly competitive market as photography, its so important for us to continue providing high-quality photographs for all our clients.

I am also proud to sponsor of Proyecto Paraguay or Project Paraguay. A project with a mission to learn the culture, share faith, and serve the community in Paraguay. This group organizes food pantries, home restoration projects, bible school, and help support those going to school. You can learn more by going to www.pryproject.org.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston is a great place for photography. There are so many people out there needing services for all kinds of events ranging from birthday parties to weddings. Culture often calls for a special occasion and boom, a photographer is needed. In addition, as diverse as Houston is, there are many markets that can be explored that reach and attracts different kinds of people. I know photographers that only focus on Indian weddings, and others that only focus on Quinceaneras. It’s where you fit.

Pricing:

  • Wedding packages start at $1,400
  • Quinceanera packages start $1,100
  • Portrait sessions start at $225
