Today we’d like to introduce you to Shirl Hooper.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all began when my husband of 34 years passed away. Starting your life over after such a loss would not come easy, I soon discovered. I began to do a lot of reading on self-improvement and self-reflection, trying to decide what I wanted most in life. With a history of many years in the healthcare field, it was time to make changes across the board of my life. I wanted a new beginning. I knew I had always had a passion for writing, romance and helping other find love. I began writing years ago as a hobby, and had three published books in the contemporary romance genre. I wanted to keep it just a hobby, so I wrote under the pen name Melisant Scott. And now the books are for sale in digital and paper back copy through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, I-Tunes, Sony and a number of other online bookstores. I kept asking myself, what is it that means most to me? The answer rang loud and clear, Love and relationships!
I missed having a man in my life after about a year, this is when I started looking for the services of a dating coach. I realized the dating world had changed by leaps and bounds and I knew nothing about it; or where to begin. Much the reading I had done over the year just after my late husband passed, indicated that many who had been out of the dating scene for quite some time, often engaged the services of a dating coach to prepare them to reenter today’s complex dating world. After interviewing seven dating coaches, I found one I clicked with, and hired her.
Was it a good decision? Most definitely! Not only did I learn about how to reenter the dating scene, but I had found my niche. I inquired about how she became a dating coach and matchmaker, and enrolled in the programs. We officially released a press release to announce our opening for business on May 18, 2016.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Anything of value is never an easy journey. There’s a lot of competition, it’s costly to maintain a start-up business, managing your time appropriately, networking, and finding just the right advertising that works for your business. Starting a new business is not for the faint of heart. Just finding the time to relax and let your hair down is a task in and of itself.
