Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan Howard.
Meagan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Mental Health has always been a passion; therefore, I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. I enjoyed being able learn more about mental health diagnoses and educating others as well as helping them through their tough times so I continued my education by pursuing my education with a Masters Degree in Counseling. I began this portion of my career by working part-time at a Psychiatric Hospital, counseling patients experiencing a mental health crisis. While I thoroughly enjoy the inpatient setting, I wasn’t able to work with clients long term and continue their journey with them to mental wellness. After completing my hours as an LPC Intern and becoming fully licensed, I began my journey towards beginning private practice with the encouragement and support of my support system. Thus giving me an opportunity to take that journey towards wellness with my clients.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The journey isn’t always smooth but it’s definitely been rewarding and a learning experience. Beginning a private practice has many steps and understanding what the necessary steps are and in what order to complete them has been a struggle but having a supportive mentor has helped you with this area. Building a clientele and starting from the bottom up can also be challenging but with faith and perseverance, it all comes together.
The Lotus Mind, PLLC – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Lotus Mind, PLLC provides mental health counseling to those struggling with obstacles of life. A Lotus Flower is a flower that immerses itself into dirty, murky river water every night but when it re-blooms in the morning, there’s no residue from the night before. Everyone has been through something, is going through something or will go through something that may challenge their mental health. These challenges may lead to anxiety, depression, anger, or other mental health symptoms. The mission of The Lotus Mind is to assist our clients in re-blooming without the residue of what’s challenged them and without the residue of the past. We aim to empower our clients and collaborate with them to develop a plan to overcome those challenges and work towards achieving and maintaining mental wellness.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I believe success is defined by quality, not quantity. If I’m able to save one life, I’ve been successful. If I’m able to help educate one person on their mental health and help them improve and maintain their mental health, I’ve been successful. Of course, I’d like to help as many as possible and will work to reach as many as possible, but I don’t believe the success is determined by the amount.
