Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Grossman.
Meg, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The concept of Gem Events all started when I was attending a friend’s wedding. It was an out of town wedding on a Dude Ranch in Arizona. My friend did not have a planner for her event, and everything was very DIY. This being a good friend’s wedding, I wanted to be as helpful as I could be. I have always had a knack for hosting and planning events, so when I got there, I dove right in and started taking the lead on much of the setting up. Over the course of the weekend, I had guests coming up to me, telling me “you should be doing this for a living”. That is when everything just clicked for me. I thought to myself “why am I not doing this for a living”. As soon as I returned to Houston, I reached out to some contacts I had in the event industry, received some great advice and guidance, and things started to snowball from there.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Easy? Absolutely not! I think most entrepreneurs, who have started their own business, would tell you that the road to success is never an easy one. The biggest challenges I face while growing Gem Events is balancing my “day job” with my duties as owner/head planner of my own company. Frankly, if I was not determined to make the company a success, and the joy I get from creating memorable events for my clients, I am not sure how I would be able to do it. I have always had a strong work ethic; I can thank my parents for instilling that in me. Balancing two full-time jobs has really shown me just how much passion is truly the foundation for all startup companies.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Gem Events – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Gem Events is a full-service event and party planning company. I take on events a small as a child’s first birthday party or as large as a full scale 500 person destination wedding and everything in between. For me, no event is too big or too small. It is all about crafting memorable moments for my clients. Gem Events is known for over the top occasions that my clients will be talking about for weeks after and will remember for a lifetime. I try to add sparkle in every event I work. As a company, I am most proud of my ability to listen to clients, give them everything they wanted and surprising them with things they did not even know they needed.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My big goal for the future of Gem Events is to grow the company to the point where it becomes one of THE names in event planning in Houston.
