Meet Nycole Hutchens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nycole Hutchens.

Nycole, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My professional background is in Media. I graduated with a Bachelors’s degree from Texas Southern University in Broadcast Journalism. My first professional job out of college was TMZ working in production. I then branched out to my more focused passion, which was Entertainment News. I became a Correspondent and writer for Hollywood Unlocked, Afterbuzz TV, to name a few. I then noticed there was more freedom in creativity by starting my own brand and a faster way to monetize and being the ‘owner’ of my own entity was important to me.

My Social Media Grabs business was inspired by creating social media posts for those who did not have time to do it so it was outsourced to me. I knew I could really turn it into a legitimate business, so that is how my online social media service came about.

In addition, I wanted to continue to do beauty beat content inspired for women of color. Thus Melynated Muse was born and I create not only content on my blog site, but I create and collaborate with many beauty and lifestyle brands for their content.

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing in life worth having is easy. My journey started off rough financially. The industry (entertainment/media) is not for the faint of heart. It requires patience and tough skin.

I went through the phase plenty of times questioning myself as a 30-year-old woman, who after college moved back in with my parents in California, and not feeling adequate although I was very aware of my ‘WHY’ and it was temporary.

But the nights of having two jobs going from having to wake up at 4 am to get to the office at 6:30 am and having to stay up until ten at night to write stories for little to nothing for my work was really a wake up call.

I had to ask myself, does it make sense to keep working where I’m undervalued and there being no guarantee of return or is there a smarter way to do things that is not only creatively rewarding but also financially rewarding?

I held onto opportunities to impress friends and family back home, rubbing shoulders with celebrities and having photo ops, but I thought to myself, “This isn’t real. I’m looking the part but don’t have the lifestyle I want to back it up.”

It is all fun and games until you realize you only have enough to put money in your gas tank and pay a few bills but have no savings at the end of the month. That realization had me kick into high gear. 2017/2018 were my most challenging years, financially, and emotionally. I had no friends. I got out of a terrible, emotionally abusive relationship that had me seeking therapy for the first time ever in my life.

I knew I had to get myself out of a depressive mental state to get my life back on track. So I began personal development and the quality of my life improved tremendously. I discovered entrepreneurship, my social circle expanded with like minded individuals and my finances improved tremendously.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
In a nutshell I’m a content creator and operate a content creation service called Social Media Grabs for small business owners and brands for their social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook. We also create Media Kits for our clients to help them build and grow their credibility. Our media kits are our best selling services. I’m proud of my company because we are still fairly new with a small team and we have already been getting great reviews for our services. We also beat any market price and we guarantee it!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I believe you can start your business anywhere if you are primarily an online service-based business. Specifically, in Houston, it is a great city because it is so diverse and large you have the potential to serve a mass group of people.
