Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheila Segnalini.
Sheila, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am originally from Venezuela and as an immigrant away from family and friends, I had to learn to balance several projects at once, which allowed me to develop a very practical skill: time management.
I started Organizing Concepts for two reasons: first, I wanted my business to reflect my strongest skills and core competencies. Second, the focus of the business had to be on helping busy stay-at-home moms and working moms find balance not only between work and family but also themselves. So, after much consideration, I decided to bring time management and productivity tools and strategies -usually reserved for the business world- to the day to day life of my clients. Once my vision was sharp, I started studying and reading as much as I could to bring to my clients the best possible time management and productivity strategies to make the most of the valuable time they have.
These days moms are extremely busy trying to make every family member’s schedule work. My goal is to show them that there is an efficient way to organize their activities, to prioritize their tasks, and to make time for the projects that matter to them. I work with my clients to help them figure out what’s the best use of their time.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a new business is rarely a smooth road. However, I’ve been very fortunate because I haven’t had to face real obstacles. Once I found my path, I have followed it the best I can.
I would say that my main challenge has been showing potential clients that there is a viable option for them to make better use of the time they have. Some moms are set in the idea that they are too busy and don’t have time to sit with a consultant for an hour and a half to talk about ways to be more efficient. Once they do, they realize that the results are long lasting.
We’re used to thinking about productivity as related almost exclusively to the corporate world but is not. We could all be more efficient at home if we applied the same strategies business do. This is the message I’m trying to get across to my potential clients.
Organizing Concepts – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I started Organizing Concepts with the vision of helping stay-at-home moms and working moms make the most of the time they have available.
These days, moms wear many hats, but rarely one of those hats is taking care of themselves. As a Productivity Consultant, I am passionate about working with my clients to create time management plans that will help them make time for the personal projects that are important for them. Finding time for activities such as starting a business, taking an online course, or simply taking yoga classes or cooking lessons can seem daunting. Practical tools such as time blocking, color coding, and prioritizing will make a world of difference in the life of a busy mom.
Most time management consultants provide their services to working professionals. I decided to bring those productivity concepts to the daily life of my clients and I am very proud to say that I have been able to make a positive impact in the lives of these super hard-working moms.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I feel very proud every time I complete a client project and see the positive changes in their daily lives. However, there is this one client, a mom of three who was going through a tough life-changing situation when she called me. She has just gone from being a stay-at-home mom to basically being a single mom in urgent need of some structure in her new routine. We worked for several sessions until she felt comfortable with her new family schedule and confident that she could manage all her tasks efficiently. The impact of our work together made her finally feel in control of her personal situation.
