Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn Belman.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey began when I was 16 years old when I joined a two-year cosmetology program at my high school. At that time, I had no long-term goals and I have no idea where this would take me, I just knew that I loved everything about the beauty industry!
Fast forward to 10 years, I became a salon suite owner and my own boss. I knew I wanted to be specialized in hair extensions, it has always been a passion of mine even before it became the super popular trend now! I love to be able to give someone their confidence back, where some have fought with cancer. It is a great feeling!!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been easy, from the struggles of starting a business to the struggle of balancing home life and work life. As a woman, it’s difficult to find a balance in mom life and owning a business. I have learned to work smarter rather than harder!
I have always kept a positive outlook, even in tough times! My advice is to keep pushing, keep learning and master your craft! Don’t give up and don’t compare yourself to others, do your thing!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lux Hair Extensions Bar by Jocelyn – what should we know?
I specialize in hair extensions particularly in long and thick extensions also known as mermaid extensions. I offer three methods that are non-damaging to the client’s hair, they are called I-tip (also knows as micro-bead) extensions, tape-in extensions, and beaded wefts extensions.
I am proud as a Latina woman that was able to build a brand that started from very humble beginnings. It continues to grow and proud to show my kids what it is possible if you are determined. I worked for everything that my brand stands for and I believe that what sets me apart is that I put a lot of heart in what I do and with everything I do, I do it genuinely!
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I believe one of the barriers to female leadership is being taken seriously! As a woman, you almost have to prove that you are as strong, capable and knowledgeable as men when in reality women are fearless and major powerhouses. We juggle it all and with motherhood at times, making it look easy when really, it’s a circus just running smoothly!
