Meet Valaencia Thompson of FROREALDOE

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valaencia Thompson.

Valaencia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always loved to write and share for as long as I can remember. As a little girl, I loved to keep a diary, and still have some of them today. Writing and expression have always been a passion of mine. I was in journalism in High School and wrote feature stories for the Cy-Fair High School student newspaper.

I went to the University of Houston, where I got my bachelors degree in Interpersonal Communications and a minor in Human Development and Family Studies. I have always been fascinated about connecting with people and understanding other people.

In December 2015, I decided that I wanted to start a blog. I wanted to create my own platform where I could write and highlight others. I had already been using FROREALDOE as a social media handle for some years, so I ended up going with that as a name for my blog, and now it has become the name of my business.

FROREALDOE stands for my core values: Faith, Relationships, Optimism, Realness, Empathy, Admiration, Love, Dreams, Overcoming, and Encouragement.

I started blogging to share stories about my personal life and conducted inspirational interviews with other women. It got great feedback. In 2017, I started a women’s empowerment event series called, Glittered in Goals. I wanted to connect with my audience off of the internet.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I started FROREALDOE as a blog, I did not know that I would begin to build a women’s lifestyle, events, and inspiration brand. I have been in the professional childcare industry for over 10 years. Currently, I am a full time Recruiting and Project Manager for an agency that provides childcare to various clients all over Houston.

I also produce a radio show that airs one day a week. So, making time to work on FROREALDOE, plan Glittered in Goals events, and maintain my full-time job and other obligations can be quite challenging. I do not have an assistant or any other team members yet, so it takes so much discipline to try and keep things balanced.

FROREALDOE – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
FROREALDOE is a platform geared toward women’s lifestyle and inspiration. As an influencer, I attend local events and give reviews of my various experiences on the blog, and I have a YouTube channel. In addition to that, I plan and host my Glittered in Goals events.

Glittered in Goals events are fun and interactive, creating a welcoming environment for introverts and extroverts alike. I created Glittered in Goals, for women who are looking for safe spaces to address the stuff that often distracts us in life. The good stuff, the bad stuff, the happy stuff, the sappy stuff. Glittered in Goals is here to form support around one another as we navigate life, and get closer to our individual goals.

What sets me apart from others is that I am not afraid to be vulnerable and transparent with my audience. I openly share about my personal struggles that have ranged from overcoming an eating disorder to struggles with anxiety. Those things are really personal, but I am not afraid to share. I know that my story may help someone else. I use the challenges that I have overcome to help me pour love into other women.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I am most proud that every Glittered in Goals event that I have hosted to date, has sold out in a matter of days. This lets me know that there is a huge need for this type of interaction within our communities of women, especially women of color.

The events are exclusive and typically host 40-60 women (with more on a waitlist). I invite amazing speakers to come out and pour into us. The objective is for every woman to walk away from a Glittered in Goals event with new tools to help them navigate life.
