Meet Vandi Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vandi Moore.

Vandi, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
For starters, I am a Jesus Christ follower, a photographer, Founder of a faith-based nonprofit organization, and so much more. I love social good and life in general. I am a 2x brain tumor conqueror! My family and friends are my heart.

I’ve lived in Houston for about 17 years now. Though, I’m originally from the best city in Dallas County, Rowlett, TX (laughing). Go Rowlett Eagles!!!

Like everyone else, my life has been a journey filled with mountain heights and valley lows. Yet, I truly believe the valley lows helped me to reach my passions, which are the mountain heights in my life on a daily basis – capturing heartfelt moments, building hope, and restoring smiles. Through it all, I give major credit to Jesus, my mother, and my late grandparents (Fordie and Mamie Willis). Growing up, they instilled what love truly is and over the years, their encouragement is a deep part of why I always aim to push forward and never give up.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. But, it has been one worth traveling because I’ve learned so much. I had brain surgery in 2010 and in 2017. It was filled with stress, depression, and a list of other things. Yet, I feel I remained strong through it all even in the weak moments because God gives me hope and faith – He lets me know that it is well.

For a while, it seemed I lost my passions, but when others approached me and let me know how much they were inspired and encouraged by my testimonies of life, is when I got my peace back if that makes any sense. I realized that what I go through, even now, is simply for me to be a light to others that may be facing the same struggles or more.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about you and your career so far?
Both photography and my nonprofit bring me so much joy!

Vandi Moore Photography was created in 2016. Though, when I was 11 years old, I received my first Kodak single-use camera and from there, I fell in love with capturing the present that turns into unforgettable memories. I love capturing almost everything! Still shots are great, but I really love those candid ones; stories are told and beautiful emotions are revealed. I’m truly honored when my clients choose me to capture beauty with them and their loved ones. I am also a photographer at my church and I absolutely love it. I am a natural light photographer and the majority of my sessions take place at different outside locations. I love natural light – God did an amazing job with creating it for our use! Plus, I believe it enhances a person’s natural beauty and provides me with so much joy during and after every sessions. I use my lighting tools when necessary, such as the moments I may need to capture on the inside for special events/occasions (birthdays, baby showers, church events, etc.).

PANDA LOVE, my nonprofit organization, was derived/created after my first brain tumor surgery – a stuffed panda bear, from my dad, was the first thing I saw when I woke up; that was the day I realized I truly have divine angels in human form surrounding me. Our mission is to love and care for others as divine angels of God in pursuance of building hope and restoring smiles to those experiencing challenging times. We understand life isn’t always easy, but it’s so much better when you have “divine angels” in humanly form that help build your hope and restore your smile. Our acronym for PANDA is “People Always Need Divine Angels.” Initially, we began with the gifting of stuffed panda bears to comfort the ill, grieving, displaced and abused children, and the elderly that may have been forgotten. We gift the stuffed panda bears as a symbol of serenity and comfort (as mine brought me on the day of surgery). In addition to the stuffed panda bears, our operations have now expanded to photography sessions that can help an individual or a family shift their focus on something else. We also find joy in building hope and restoring smiles through random acts of kindness.

I’m most proud of the lives that are being changed and the beauty that is captured. I feel blessed to be a part of other people’s lives. What sets me apart is allowing myself to learn from others – spiritually and mentally. I feel those aspects help me achieve what I’m passionate about. My photography clients and my divine angels will always feel love.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I honestly don’t think I’d do anything differently. I feel I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be and doing what I’m supposed to do in this world. My past continues molding me at my present and future.
