Meet Vannessa Cox of TCC Hair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vannessa Cox.

Vannessa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
TCC Hair opened in Houston April 2017. The idea came from collaborating with my younger sister. A Nashville hairstylist, she wanted to expand her reach. Her product was amazing and with my business knowledge, I knew I would take the company far.

However, if I were taking this effort on in Houston, I needed it to bring more impact than just a general hair store.

That’s when I realized there’s a segment of people unseen in the beauty industry who needs wigs and extensions the most. We recently celebrated our 1 year anniversary and just scratching the surface.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The first 11 months weren’t easy considering I had a full-time job in the oil and gas industry. Yes. I would work 9 AM – 6 PM as an IT Analyst, and then 6-9 PM as a hair store owner. I also opened Saturday – Sunday to make up for the closed hours during the week. Insane!

I sometimes opened the store on my lunch breaks and I even gave those who made it to the store before me a $10 discount since they’d have to wait till I fought I-10 traffic. In February, I made the decision to let the 9-5 job go and give TCC Hair the dedication it needed to thrive and I never looked back.

TCC Hair – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
TCC Hair is a custom hair replacement center. As a wig/extensions consultant for my clients, I sit with each of them privately to discuss their needs and desires. Majority of my clients shop for wigs due to completely losing their hair from illnesses. Our mink Brazilian hair strands is a hit with the market. This high-grade hair type lasts longer than 2 years, holds curls better, keeps its shine and moisture, full, and can withstand multiple dye applications.

What I’m most proud about with TCC Hair is I haven’t succumbed to the pressures of social media and the industry. Hair loss isn’t a glamorous topic. Its sad most times and typically unspoken about in the beauty industry. I could have easily put myself out there posing next to luxury cars or shown a lot of skin resembling every other hair company, but I haven’t and I won’t. I do cater to those not suffering from hair loss but my hair loss clients are the focus.

TCC wigs are designed with features that most aren’t familiar with. Women and kids can put them on without a stylist, the hairline around the parameter looks extremely natural, the cap is designed to fit the scalp, comfortable as the cap is ventilated and has undetected security features.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
When a client that has suffered from hair loss for years, puts on her custom designed wig and cries of joy.
