Meet Vincent Markesino of Houston Coffee Company in Richmond Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vincent Markesino.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got into the coffee business roughly when I met my wife back in college. I was working on and off doing marketing for some Houston firms and her family has some estate farms in El Salvador. We wanted to make a little extra cash on the side while attending classes and that is how Houston Coffee Company was born. Over the years, we worked with many start-ups and small coffee shops but turned our focus towards veteran-owned businesses.

For the next six years, we exclusively dealt only with Veteran businesses helping them grow their businesses and find more customers. We evolved Houston Coffee Company into AMCOFFEES in 2018 (American Made Coffees – amcoffees.com) whose mission is to help small VOBs establish a viable business while allowing for upward mobility in a tight market such as coffee, printing, fulfillment, and web services.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The world of coffee is always a rough road: we are at the mercy of the weather, bad crop seasons, trade issues, high shipping expenses, and now with Corona, the ports and mills have been shut down for months putting a chokehold on the whole industry.

Please tell us about Houston Coffee Company.
Houston Coffee Company / AM Coffees is the direct farm representative and importer to our own family farms located in El Salvador.

Vincent Markesino – Owner I do the day to day, web stuff, social media, email clients, foster new deals, work with clients creating price matrixes, but 90% of the time it is answering questions. Coffee as a commodity is quite the handful to deal with.

As a company, I am most proud to be able to get my families personal coffee to so many consumers around the United States. As of February 2020, we have sold over 20,000,000 cups across the US.

The biggest thing that sets us apart is that Not only are we the farm, we act as the mill, roaster, broker, importer, shipper, business manager and partner. If you think you can sell coffee, we can help you find a path to success.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over and do one thing differently, it would have been to buy my own personal roaster in year 1.
