Rising Stars: Meet J’nee Adams

Today we’d like to introduce you to J’nee Adams.

Hi J’nee, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started Strut With J’nee at the start of 2018. I was dealing with the aftermath of a couple of rough years wearing down on me, mentally and physically. I asked myself, “What makes me happy?” And the answer was simple, DANCE! I had lost that fire that dance always seemed to bring out of me. So I put all of my energy into creating an atmosphere for women to be their best selves, in a judgment-free zone. My classes are all about empowering, uplifting, and celebrating everything that is a woman. No matter the color, size, or dance ability, everyone is welcomed!

Over the years, SWJ has blossomed into something special. My business has expanded to where I am now teaching beginners and advance classes. And we are currently working on adding a third. I have my own team of dancers that I book for performances with local artist and businesses. We have had the opportunity to work with artist such as Kelsey Nicole, SKG, Paul Wall and many more.

I’m proud of the accomplishments I’ve made, even through a pandemic. But I’m most proud of the self-love my students feel once they leave a class with me.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There are definitely times when you question if entrepreneurship is for you. When I first started, my style of dance, heels dance, wasn’t that popular. There were plenty of times when no one showed up to a class at all and it would be just me and my sister. The pandemic really boosted my career. Once things opened back up, people were ready to get active and dance played a huge part in keeping the world sane (Tik Tok, dance challenges). It was nice to be a part of something that helped put a smile on people’s faces in such a difficult time.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a dance instructor who specializes in ballet, hip hop, heels, and jazz. I own Strut With J’nee, which is confidence building dance class that focuses on choreography, performance and body movement.

The thing that I am most known for with my classes is that I am really big on technique and having a solid foundation verses just having a cute video to post to our Insta feed. You’re going to get both lol. Each week, I challenge the men and women who attend my classes to push themselves to a new level in dance that they never thought they could achieve.

The success stories are what I’m most proud of. It’s such a blessing to be a part of some many amazing stories of people finding and loving who they are, for themselves.
