Meet Wander Weird

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wander Weird.

WANDERWEIRD has been backpacking around the United States for the last few years on his never-ending art tour, live painting at art and music festivals, concerts, comic book conventions, and the sidewalks of his favorite cities.

This year, he’s working on a series of mandalas based on the Sacred Mythologies of his childhood (painting video games and pretending that it’s deep), and working on a new comic book of meta-mythology called APOCRYPHON.

Please tell us about your art.
I’m obsessed with mythology and stories, especially when viewed through a pop culture lens. My video game mandala series is based on the idea that these games and stories act as a sort of hero’s journey/rite of passage: Ganondorf or Bowser are challenges that my generation faced alone, but all together.

The comic books reflect this as well, I’ve been accused of making the nerdy divine and the divine nerdy.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Success is having an idea, and then being satisfied with its execution. If you’re happy with the work, nothing else matters.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Comicpalooza and various comic book conventions around the Houston and Austin area, including Classic Game Fest, Staple!, HavonCon, and any event thrown by Create Culture.

I also keep a website at “http://wanderweird.com
