Meet Otis Ross of Earthy Goodness Vegan Ice Cream in Humble and Third Ward

Today we’d like to introduce you to Otis Ross.

Otis, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been non-dairy for years, but I grew up eating homemade ice cream in my birth state of New Jersey. We would make it from snow in the winter.

So understandably, the love never wained. And Texas heat only intensified the need. So, I started with online recipes and visiting local “vegan ice cream parlors. It was just not “ice-cream” in texture or taste. The logical next step was to try… and try and try and try again.

It’s been 18 weeks now and the brand is growing and taste approved by many, including my only local competitors faithful.

At this stage admittedly, the company is in need of talented minds and financial support. However its strong and gaining ground daily.

It’s the most unique attribute, our ability to give you 100’s of flavors inspired from all over the world. Ginger carrot, ube yam, matcha, cinnamon and nuts, banana pudding are just a few.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it hasn’t. Recently, my only vehicle was totaled by an uninsured teenage driver. The truck, loaded with equipment, supplies, orders, freezers, and all inventory was a total loss. The last six weeks have been a ride to remember. Operating on zero literally, I simply refuse to fail.

I believe this is a viable asset to my community. Able to provide jobs and careers to many both here in Texas and nationwide.

The hardest part is the sheer demand coupled with a lack of physical and financial resources.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Earthy Goodness Vegan Ice Cream story. Tell us more about the business.
I make vegan ice cream from coconut milk. Vegan ice cream cakes are also a specialty. Unlike most vegan brands, Earth Goodness will challenge bluebell in flavor and texture. It’s smooth light and packed with flavor.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck. I can’t say which is good or bad, just lessons that must be learned. I’m still here, so overall, I’m just blessed.
