Meet Gregory Daniel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregory Daniel.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Like many, my story began in church of course. I was a young kid that started playing drums in church at the age of three. My entire family is comprised of musicians and singers, pioneered by the matriarch of our family, my late grandfather Thurman J. Murphy Sr. I really had no choice but to be a musician, but there was never a day that I wasn’t completely in love with music. From then on, it always seemed like I found myself in places where I was ahead of my time or age in a sense. As I grew older, I began to realize that was not luck, or even really anything I did to put myself in those places, but it was the unmerited favor of God. The characteristic I quickly learned about myself is that I had a capacity to do a great many things, and grasp concepts/ideologies that some may find either difficult or sometimes even irrelevant. This has continued to play out in my life as I entered the world of professional musicianship, touring and recording with R&B great Brian McKnight for the last five years, diving into Real Estate as a Licensed Agent, and jumping into the legal world in what is now the tail end of my 2L year of law school at Thurgood Marshall School of Law. Overall, though my story is far from over, I feel there is a demand that comes with the favor of God, and that demand is to stretch myself to and beyond the capacity that he’s given me.

Please tell us about your art.
As I mentioned, I am a full-time musician. I continue to play in church when I am not on the road with Brian McKnight. Traveling with him takes me literally all over the world. We have upcoming dates all over the US, including Lake Charles, LA, the closest date coming up to Houston. As for international travel, we are headed to Japan, the UK, Australia, Italy, and Rome all within the next three months.

I am also a licensed Realtor in Texas. I primarily assist in Commercial Law, helping business owners locate office spaces and locations for their businesses. Though this is my specialization, I am well-equipped to help clients looking for a home, or investors looking for property as well.

I am an author as well. My book, “When Men Cry, Nations Are Destroyed” was released on digital platforms 3 years ago (Amazon, Kindle, Nook).

I own a consulting company called Iceberg Consultations as well. We start with having conversations with entrepreneurs, business owners, and people from all walks to see where we can fit in their process of growth.

Additionally, I am in the latter part of my 2L year of law school at Thurgood Marshall School of Law. I am planning to go into Entertainment Law, and possibly estate planning as well.

My biggest message to most people is doing what you love and don’t limit yourself. People are always perplexed by what I do, and how much I am doing, especially because for most, my traveling with McKnight is a dream job. I hold that job in the same regard, but in all aspects, I know myself, and I know I have to push further and for more. It is also crucial you don’t leave this earth with potential. We have a responsibility to use our experiences and abilities to help others and try to make a difference. But more than anything I love EVERYTHING I am doing. That is key to ensuring your life remains satisfactory.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Social media is really a powerful tool for combating this. I would tell artists to not be afraid to go beyond the likes and comments, and DM other artists to have conversations. That really goes a long way. Not just for yourself, but you never know how much that means to another artist just to give them a sense that someone cares and is paying attention to their work. To that effect, also go out and support other artists when they host events. That will really go a long way in helping to build the artist community, and you never know who you’ll connect with while you’re there.
