Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Monae.
Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a single mom of three. I’m the person that has always struggled with finding the thing I loved to do. I know people that knew what their calling was in high school, but as a 30 something mom, I still hadn’t figured it out. I got trapped in living for my babies and my activities were their activities so if you asked me what I liked to do, I couldn’t really answer the question. So, I made a list of things I enjoyed and that list still had a bunch of kid stuff on it, so I said why not make this a business. I was very hesitant to begin living my life publicly for multiple reasons, one being, would anybody even care to read what I’m talking about? But what I’ve realized in only a few months of having my blog, my transparency has helped so many more people than I ever thought it would. If I had only reached one person, I would have been happy; but this platform is allowing me to uplift women, give single moms a voice, and tell my own story in the process. It’s therapeutic and I feel that I’ve finally found the “thing” I enjoy doing and I’ve made a business out of it.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
So far, so good, but I am only three months in. I’m learning so much about the blogger/influencer life and a lot of that is because there have been so many women willing to give me advice and lead me in the right direction. Never be too proud to ask winners how to win.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with MePlusThree – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
There are tons of mom blogs, TONS! And what sets us all apart from the other is this is our personal journey. No kid is the same and no mom is the same. With my blog/Instagram, you get a mix of fashion, lifestyle, home décor and tons of kid stuff. I’m still growing and learning. I am most proud of being able to help people. It makes me the happiest when I get an email and someone says something I said helped them in any way; whether it’s to buy the new rug for their living room or put their kid in a private school. It warms my heart.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I believe when women stick together we’re unstoppable. I am the girl power fan club president. I will do any and everything I can to help another woman win. If we don’t focus on the challenges and work hard at the opportunities, we can all win. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind. Like the great and wonderful Beyoncé said:
How we’re smart enough.
To make these millions.
Strong enough to bear the children.
Then, get back to business.
